Now the real fun is gonna be trying to get back home... Hope you don't have any plans in the next month and a half cause I'd just cancel those now...
Hey speaking of a good line of BS, Knight just called me the other day and offered to beat my current salary and promised I'd be home every weekend. I just told them I have an automatic trans and a fridge, my truck doesn't break down and I get serviced (real service) every 25,000 miles w/ no stupid questions asked. I continued on to explain I'm guaranteed $1,000/week regardless of what I run. They said they'd match it... I said put it in writing and they hung up. Everyone else here get the same phone call? Just curious... and no I'd rather be stabbed to death with a plastic spoon.

Baloney! Nice try.
I'm gonna come right out and say it.. Attitude is NOT everything!
Enough of the "You're responsible for your own destiny" bee ess.
Due to rules, regs. and reliance on someone else that does your planning for you, you are subject to their rules; not yours.
The figures that I give are real and are typical for nearly all other drivers.
Here's a challenge: Physically go to any truck stop ( Petro, TA, Pilot, etc.) and personally ask the drivers how they are doing. Get real information from real drivers.Scoots Thanks this. -
I get a call or post card from them every month or so. Same BS. If they would just change the way they do everything I might think about it.Scoots Thanks this.

Surfer Joe what company do you drive for by the way? After Conway i do not see any post about what company you drive for. Wondering if you even drive a truck anymore or just gave up and just like to complain, complain, and complain even more seeing that you couldn't make it in trucking.

Ok guys I am getting mixed reviews here. I understand getting experience I will not match my current salary. After reviewing many training companies here Knight just seems to be the better one. Typically which direction should I look to try and have the best year/year and half I possibly can? Refrig or dry van ? I am the the South west region. Phoenix area thanks guys
-
I would go refrigerated as they have a much longer length of haul. Don't pay attention to the horror stories about reefers. Dry van's will have just as many terrible pickup and delivery experiences as well as the simple drop and hooks and easy 1 hour load/unload times. As you have heard, you will be lied to constantly especially by other terminals. Just think of Knight as 28 competing companies. They will ask you for favors in a tone like you're their best friend and it's all for their gain. Just remember that your pay is based on mileage and mileage alone. Pay no attention to accessory pay the sooner you realize you will only get 50% of it and that's after fighting for it, the better you will be. I'd get in, get a year and move on but I think you have figured that out already. You will make about 40K 50K in a year but it will come with enormous headaches and second guessing not your chosen career but your employer. You will not see earnings anywhere near Tallmans claims, not even sure why that nonsense was even put on here.Surfer Joe and Scoots Thank this.

Argghh! The facts, matey, they all speak fer themselves!
Or, as an old salt once said, "Dude! Who would be lame enough to stay at a place that works you for 100 hours a week for $600.00 to $750.00, and then actually defends it"?Last edited: May 27, 2014

Thank you DNA !! I am not setting my expectations high. I figured (hopefully ) mid to high 30s first year , and yes keeping my eyes open for better jobs asap. Not much worse than what I do know. I am a manager and haven't seen any kind of raise in 8 years nows, I grewup having to work hard all my life and doing whatever it takes. Like most of us, if its not appreciated I will move on.Are you out of Phoenix terminal ?

DNA is right on. Go reefer; they have some dedicated stuff in the southwest and they have more miles than the dry side. Get your experience, then..... Heidiho!
