I do commend the trucker for doing the right thing and turning himself in.Had the cops stopped and arrested him things would have been worse for him.But I do hope he faces a huge fine, termination and possibly loses his CDL.Some things should have zero tolerance.

Ahem...Amen on him coming clean and turning himself in...while this is an extreme case, I will admit myself that I have had a few "wtf...i hope nobody saw that" incidents happen over my career. Anyone who says they never had one is lying. I am sure the driver was pretty shaken too, knowing he was inches from killing a child...Its easy to cast judgement and throw stones...I guess my point is to just use this as a lesson , instead of just stating how you want to publicly beat him, remember how quickly not paying attention or being in too big of a hurry can go wrong.

Does'nt matter, you see a bus slowing down then stopping, you do not pass the bus and especially from the shoulder like this driver did.He also forced the oncoming car off the road. This trucker knew he did wrong, otherwise he wouldn't have turned himself in.

Technically you are not supposed to "drive" on the shoulder (right of a solid white line) period. Not even to navigate around a left-turning car, much less a bus with stop flashers on. This is a ticketable offense even just to get around a stopped car.

I wish that was true but I doubt the trucker would have turned himself in if he didn't see the video on the news and didn't think at the time that somebody may put 2 and 2 together and review some fleet location GPS logs and put that truck/driver at the scene at the correct time

    pattyj Thanks this.

That's absurd. There's absolutely no way you could do something like that driver did and NOT know you did something wrong unless you're mentally ill.

Who said the trucker might not have been aware he did something wrong? I was saying the driver might have wished ho could have gotten away with it and avoided a period of incarceration, but then realized that probably wasn't going to happen, so he tried to take a pro-active approach to mitigate the damages. He's not sorry he did it, he's mad buses have dash cams.

Sorry I don't play fair no governor and I'm on paper. Point wasn't to bash drivers who are governed and on elogs point to be made was that the #### things don't make roads safer when you have idiots like this behind the wheel.

Those cameras aren't as great as they seem uncle drove a bus for years image quality was horrible made it hard to do anything if somebody did something stupid around a bus. In all his years it was more the kids in the back than other motorists though.

I won't blame fatigue I blame the driver plain and simple. Idk about every ody else but when I see a bus I get the hell away from it weather that means stopping, or passing just to much risk being behind a school bus IMHO.

That's kind of harsh especially when we don't know what exactly took place.

I think what they teach those kids in school is equivalent to getting hit by a semi.
