As a company driver with a new Kenworth T680, I would like to find out about installing a CB, inverter (over 400 A, not cigarette lighter plug-in); how is this usually done? Does one find someone shade tree?
It looks as though there are accomodations for the CB already in place, but the inverter (hard wired) is another story and I want it done well (which I cannot/will not do myself).:biggrin_25525:

Buy decent gage cables. Take to decent gage mechanic. Take decent gage donuts and coffee with you.

There is a thread in the electronics section about it. As a company driver I wouldn't do it myself. Let the shop be responsible for any problems.

you do not need an inverter to run your cb radio, inverter is for anything that is 110volt that you want to run in the truck it will step it down from 110volt to 12volt!just hook your cb radio up to the power in the truck , all you need is 12volt positive and a ground thats it!

    jimo Thanks this.

Sorry if I mislead you with my question. As you state, I want the inverter so I can use AC appliances, such as a small crock pot and, maybe, a small microwave, as well as any other AC items to make life more comfortable. I just bought a 100A plug-in for computer charging and it seems to work well. The truck has a dedicated place for the CB and it appears that probable CB wires can be connected to the truck's in-place wiring.

wsyrob: yeah, I don't plan to do it myself; however, the company is Werner and I'll have to read their bible as to allowing a decent size inverter.

go in and ask the werner shop people what the biggest nverter they allow is. a 2k watt(what i have) is MORE than ample for a 700W micorwave, fridge(dorm sized) and 2 laptops

    jimo and CondoCruiser Thank this.

Follow the instructions on the inverter you buy, they will recommend the type of gauge cables you need. Depending on the wattage too, you may want to install a fuse between the inverter and the battery on the live cable. That's what I did with mine. It's advisable to go with a bit more power on the inverter than what is needed so you don't overload it. Some trucks have access holes in the floor so you can directly wire it easily to the battery.
    Good luck.
