I can get a decent room in Las Vegas for $35-38. My truck will use about 7 gallons if I idle it all night. Add in $12-13 for a shower and it's actually cost effective to get out of the truck and stay in a hotel. For a company driver burning Swift's fuel then by all means spend Swift's money and idle all night. Since I'm paying for the fuel I refuse to idle my truck if there is ANY other option. I sleep MUCH better using IdleAir than if my truck is running.

That is why I recommend the redneck apu option for any owner op. Mine burns 1.42 gallons in 10 hours works out to about $0.54 cents per hour. I've had those guys at IdleAire and Shorepower try to hard sell me at their truck show booths, as soon as I say mine costs $0.50 cents per hour they try to hustle me out of there before anyone else hears it as they are trying to sell their products at $2 bucks an hour like its cool.

Idle is a farce, as I been saying for years were it really and issue motels would fill up every night. It is nothing more than and attempt to make a hardship for the O/O's.

Most drivers are clueless when it come to the actual operating costs of their trucks. That's why so many trucks continue to idle needlessly.
I only stay in motels/hotels when there is a clear benefit. I do not hesitate to use IdleAir if it's available and the temperature is above 85 degrees. -
You missed my point..... Real owner operators have to actually PAY and Maintain these useless APU devices.
And L/P drivers just have one loaned to them and couldn't even acquire their own fuel card if need be.
If the idle time of your equipment is the difference in making and breaking the bank then you too are drinking the kool aid.tangerineGT and Shaggy Thank this. -
If I missed your point it's because you don't have one. I never said a thing about APU's.A21CAV Thanks this.

What do you think the subject is about?
You and your loaner swift truck only help prove my point. -
The subject is about high idle, in a swift section, not APUs.
SteveH85396 and A21CAV Thank this. -
