Well that load delivered... I can't believe we got charged $253 for a late delivery and rescheduled appt!! Well not us personally, but Swift. Oh well... We didn't get unloaded for 7 hrs, 5 of those should be detention!

So heading back to Syracuse to get our AC finished off, and waiting for the load that takes us home... Have a funny feeling that they will route us through SLC though... Going to need to research how to get the truck from UT to CA... I'm thinking line 5, but we have no vinyl yet for our truck... But we do have insurance out side of Swifts... Mmmm... We shall see :D

GREAT to see your latest postings. Congratulation on the new developments. I recall this was a goal you two had planned for a while now.

IMO you should risk making duplicate postings and keep this post current. At least that’s my opinion.

I know this would be water under the bridge, but its a ’trucking’ question I have. I always thought Matilda (right name?) was a problem child, or was that just typical large truck growing pains? At least you know what got fixed.

I have always found when I doing something outside of work to increase my value (even if it just in my mind) or potential income I feel a lot more in control of my life and future. Sometimes it paid off for me, and sometimes not, but the satisfaction is still paying dividends, and that is the kind of happiness money can not buy. Real learning is work, and seldom free.
    Again congratulations on your progress.

THANKS for taking the time to make the updates to this post. :)

A little about me which adds nothing to the thread: Looks like a trucking career is less likely for me (us, wife and I) or will be another few years away. Our jobs seem to be looking a lot more stable. I spent the last year trying to work 70 hours a week when OT was available which was like 46 weeks to get a feel of trucking. I would have rather spend 50 hours of my work looking out a window, and not being involved with a big dirt machine. I do have to say the money was GREAT, I can buy a brand new Peterbilt if the G-man had not taken his cut. I’m not coming here as often as before but trying to keep up with ’Trucking News’, and I just finished reading a book: Mother Trucker by the Hamel’s.

Question, do you have to unload the trailers or do you just drop off and pick-up? I'm new at this, thanx!

It all depends on the run/load. Some times they will be just a drop-n-hook, some you will have to wait in the truck while they unload. There are some that you will need to be on the dock counting and taking temps as they are loaded in. After a while you can, if you feel up to the challenge lump your own load your self.... But you have to be careful with that... It can in some cases be a real hand full. Central will pay or I should say did (don't know what Swift does) pay O/O $30 per hour for up to 4 hours. So that is $120 but the same load a lumper service will cost them $200 and up.

Line 5 is OK *if* you are returning to the point of origin where you started line 5. I recommend pushing your PTA out and just using line 3 to drive home and attend to the details of leasing onto your new company while still under Swift authority and plates, insurance etc. For all intents and purposes everything will be legit and no one will be the wiser. Just be sure to post date the new contract so the dates do not overlap (we cannot be leased to two companies at once). When you new contract goes into effect, simply send a message requesting termination of the Swift contract, no need for advance notice.

Well missed you guys ... went through there around 1500. But, what did you do to the folks in Syracuse? I got a friendly 3rd degree going out the gate, wanting to know what was up with all the trucks from Sacramento.

:D Matilda is our truck's name, and she has been pretty good compared to others of her litter... Besides some factory recalls and fixes (which all new trucks will have) her only MAJOR problem was the fuel in the coolant/coolant in the fuel early on (120K miles ish) and it snowballed into more problems because it wasn't properly diagnosed by SACRAMENTO FREIGHTLINER (do not recommend going there!!). Other than that, she has had the usual stuff... DEF filter, doses valve etc... But she now has 670K miles on her, and we put them all on her!

Keep heading for the goal (trucking if that's what you want) and enjoy where ever that journey takes you :) you never know what around the corner!!

Only thing wrong here though, we're not leasing onto another company... We are getting/have our own authority... Plus we've already sent in our letter of resignation... Of course the date of resignation was last FRIDAY! Which if we would have had our usual loop, we would have been home last Friday... Sigh... But as usual, we plan and God laughs! God messed with the dedicated account, sent us on a new route then ran a deer in front of us. Now we are on a load that will take us to Cheyenne, WY... A hop, skip and jump from SLC. Now we have insurance, and our active DOT/MC numbers, but DMV in CA is holding up our IRP plate. That is the last piece of the puzzle! Once we have that we can get our permits and IFTA. So what we need is a way to be legal, not under load to head home... That's why I'm thinking line 5 might work...
