    most of the Targets have a protocol to not answer the door because of safety etc, I have talked with some dock workers over the past few months and they have told me stories about people trying to break in through the back door. Usually I have to try calling the store when i need to speak to someone or get a hold of dispatch who will then call them and tell them to answer the door to me. I think since September only 2 times someone answered the door without me making a phone call.

    Also those "deadlines" are usually much earlier than the offload time. Some stores its as less as an hour earlier, some much much more. Example Merced requires a 20:00 delivery but they dont even offload until 3-4am. Then there are the stores in the rich neighborhoods that require trucks to be long gone by a certain time, like one of Modesto you have to be out of city limits by 1700, same for paso robles.

    They were testing you to see how much of a team player you might be in a crunch. I bet you have a big ole asterisk by your name on the screen now, and will have to reprove yourself all over again for the next couple weeks as they
    try to bring you back inline with the 'Swift Way'.

    When he told you to work off duty on the phone, that is a good time to have him confirm that with a qualcomm message.

    You can get free air lines from the terminals and keep as spares on your truck. They want you to turn in a broken one to get a new one though. So go dumpster diving at the truck stops an pull out a stretched out one and trade it for new ones in the future. Also in a pinch you can put tha blue on in place of the red one and forgo the blue service line for a short move like that instead of dragging the tires flat spotted.

    I didn't get finished until around 0500 this morning, finally get to sleep at around 0700, and had 2 pplans come in around 1000.
    Another message at 1030 wanting a response.
    I woke up at about 1200 and noticed them. I refused them with the home time and b-service reasons.
    I got message telling me that there was no home time request in the system and that I needed to request it 5 days in advance, but she would be happy to oblige after the Sunday loads were done. I called her and exchanged a few words about how they treat OTR drivers and that my home time request was put in and accepted on the 11th, and that I had no intention of doing any more loads for them because of what had happened with the first 2 loads.
    (I called Fontana right after that, and they could see my home time request and when it was entered into the system.)

    If they want help for a busy weekend they should show more respect, is my opinion.
    I may have gone a bit overboard, but I hadn't had much sleep. I'm grouchy when I'm tired and stressed.

    Anyway, I took back their mt and grabbed a Swift mt, then headed for the TA.
    I'll sit here until I get a load that heads me in the right direction.

    Moose, the only Target I'll have anything to do with is Pueblo, CO. The way you run I'm sure you would do great leasing. You should arrange to meet up with one of us who are making great money and doing it without the hassles you have mentioned in the past. You can also lease a used truck with a year or two left to try it out. If I were younger I would lease used, one year trucks to evaluate them, buy at the lease end and put dedicated and adult drivers in the seat to build a fleet. You would be at the top of that list.

    I don't think I am a good lease candidate.
    I don't run that hard, and I am not good at running a business.
    Simply put, I am too lazy in certain key areas.

    While I have had my share of hassles, overall I've been very happy.
    It is usually when I am helping out with dedicated stuff that I have problems. Usually I just try to learn their system and deal with it for a few days, and move on to better OTR gigs.

    I think this is the first time that I simply got fed up with it right off the bat. Maybe because they never asked me to do it; I just seemed to be conscripted into it once I accepted that first load.
    It seemed like any other load, at the time.
    And I told them up front, that first day, that I had other obligations with my home time and b-service, so I didn't want any more of the local Target loads. They just kept trying to load me up with them, somehow thinking that they 'had me' for some duration.

    If they had been up front with me things might have been different.
    But they were deceptive, and I don't work well with that.

    Simply putting a comment on the dispatch to that effect, with the correct phone number to call on arrival, would make sense.

    Maybe too much sense.... :D

    Being self aware is half the battle to get to Happyness (sp intentional).

    I hear you. Seems like there are a few vortexes in the system that will suck you in if you get too close to their area, "Hey! Fresh meat! Let's snag it!" I had a similar experience when I got sucked into the Walmart dedicated in northern Utah. Finally I ran out of hours and they gave me up after they wrung me dry. I sat for a day and asked my DM to get me out of there and that finally worked.

    weed ca. other driver finally showed up and i left lathrop terminal about 1400. got further than i thought since i was tired for waiting since 0600. preplan gave time of 06/13 0930. so i thought thee load was already there when i accepted it. then when i went in to get it, they said he be here in the morning. so when i got up and got coffee, i checked again and they said he was still in wheeler ridge in sleeper. i called fontana to confirm and they said yeah. asked them what eta he gave and they said noon. oh well, get to sumner terminal tomorrow nite then deliver in tacoma the next morning. dont feel like trying to get a spot there at the loves since its always packed.
