How do you handle time zones?Seems confusing

you log everything the same time zone as your home terminal. take my company for example we are eastern time. if I deliver in california at 5 am local it's 8am est, i log it 8 am.

 

It is easier than you think. I live in the central timezone so if I am going out east and it delivers at 5pm, I just pretend that it is at 4pm. Your pickup and delivery times are all that matters. It is cool when I drive out west and the sun seems to go down at 10PM lol.

 

as stated before...log on your home terminal timezone. if you use you phone to tell time, make sure it changes. my phone gets stuck sometimes at the borderline of timezones. if you're using elogs, they are set at home terminal. also,with my company, the loads appt times are set for the shipper/receiver timezone. its all confusing when you first start out, but it gets easier

 

My tablet is my clock and I have it set for multiple time zones. I always need to know what time it is on Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria. But I also use it for different timezones in the US.

 

If home calls to say someone died, it'll be 5 hours behind, the next day.

Then hopefully I'm 2 hours ahead in LAX boarding.

At least I arrive back 3 hours earlier the same day I left . . .

 

We log central time, I keep my cell on local and my dash on central. When trip planning i have an extra hour if delivering on east and an hour less if delivering on mountain. Just add an hour or subtract as needed. it gets easier as you get further in your career.

 

When I drive at night alot I forget what day it is so I flip my phone open and it has the current date on it.

 

Most states are pretty easy.

Few of them are pretty screwy.

 

I keep my dash and CD deck clock set to CST and let my phone roam with the time zones. Then I can grab it on the way to bed and set my alarm accordingly to the customers pickup or delivery by either adding or subtracting depending on the time zone I'm in. That's always worked for me for log book and customer purposes.

 

I live on the east coast and all of my pick ups and deliveries are set on eastern time no matter what part of the country I'm in.
