Once again that falls on the DRIVER. Not the Elogs. Blame the right thing if your gonna place blame.

Of course it's on the driver, but it's a called a TREND when people of a group do something more than those of a different group. It's pretty obvious that the trend is that eloggers are more dangerous than paper loggers. A guy that drives 11 1/2 hours to get to his destination is statistically less likely to crash than an Elogger. Elogs are about control, nothing more.

This was exactly my point. I do not speed, ever, I have never had a moving violation, ever. I run paper logs. I drive safely. The guys promoting e-logs tend to think somehow they are safer than everyone else because their safety guy said so. Then they turn around and spout 50 ways to game the system to run illegally. Yes, running on line 5 is ILLEGAL just like if I tear a sheet out of my loose leaf to gain 30 minutes or an hour.

I'm not saying everyone on e-logs is a bad driver and everyone on paper is a saint, just don't set there and preach holier than thou at those of us still on paper logs.

How many of you were at the customer and now on line 1 but forgot to log it on your elogs for like an hr later?I've done that and that's why I prefer paper.

For one I am on elogs and hate it for two talk about more labor intensive heck I cam fill out a paper to start and have it done in less than five min. To walk though and change the shipping and trailers plus my duty status takes almost 10 and last count it 73 buttons to push to do all the changes not including send in the empty and loaded calls. A waste of time and not labor intensive on either and you think filling on out paper is then I can see why you want elogs. It tells you each step one at a time for those that cant think or remember on their own makes since.

And cheat yeah make it so a few little overs and I am talking a few min here and there without being in the DOTS face they have to hunt to tag you with a 10min over on paper. Elog just highlights and says here I am write me up I want to pay that fine because I was 20 min from the house and did not want to spend 10hrs there instead of with my wife and kids.
Btw I and many can cheat the elog easy enough but just as I did in the past I logged one the other day just as I ran it because it was going to be more than a few min. 40 over on the 8 and 10mi. Over on the 14 but I was not stopping.
I could have pulled in to a drop yard and loged out finished the last 25 miles and just logged back in on sunday at the drop yard. I have old logs that show the same type of infractions because yeah I may cheat here and there a few min but not if its something that far over. It does not make me less safe than ones that speed though construction zones to beat that clock. AFTER All its all about being safe and yet I see more trucks tailgating and in ditches the past five years than before.
I will run the elogs since i have to but i will not do so quietly I Will ##### to all that will listen and write my Senator's and Congress men. I tell dot what BS it is and most tend to agree had one in CO that #####ed more about the 30 min break and the 1-5 rules than I did and he did not even check my logs.
I prefer 3 or 4 7-15min breaks but hey now I take the one and skip the others (if I dont spilt sleeper) does it make me safer? No it makes me trudge though it and get more upset going to cause high blood pressure one of these days if I dont plow though a moron that cut me off at a red light but all about safety. Those that screw up now will screw up no matter what system they are on.

You guys just wanna complain about something. If it's not Elogs it's the HOS. If it's not the HOS it's the truck designs. If it's not that it's speed limiters. If not that it's the lady in charge. If not that it's the company you work for. If not that it's the truckstops.
That's why I try not to talk to other truckers. All it becomes is a whine fest. Can't please any of them.

I amended those statements to be more accurate.

The way you guys make it sound, it sounds like paper loggers obey the rules of the road and never drive too fast for conditions. What I think it is that you are looking for a commonality among these poor drivers and are making a blanket statement for all who happen to share that commonality of which is eLogs.

I bet most of these offending drivers have GPSs, using the same logic, drivers who have GPSs (or over-the-head bluetooths, smart phones, park at the fuel island, etc) drive through truckstops, small towns, construction zones too fast. In this thread the whipping post is elogs and "I blame it on the megas" is the usual response.

It amazes how people are quick to blame the technology as the problem and not the user. Going to a well worn statement from the NRA, "Guns don't kill people, People kill people". Same thing with technology, "Technology doesn't make bad drivers, Drivers make bad drivers".

Do you honestly think these bad elogging drivers would behave any better on paper logs?
