Ever have a nut job walk up to you and try to strike up a conversation? Ever notice that when the local news interviews a 'regular Joe' it's a cracked out inbred ghetto fabulous guy that couldn't be cool at the North Pole? Ever have to go to WalMart in the middle of the night and notice that there are women that look as if they are trying to win the Oswald Cobblepot lookalike contest?
Ever notice that all of these types of people are concentrated at the Greydog? The Greydog is so bad that politicians can use it against their opponents.
why greyhound? why?

I used to ride greyhound between El Paso and Dallas as Stevens had more drivers than freight going to El Paso so i'd park in the yard for time off many times. Back then they'd pay one way home or back, so I'd fly one way and take the bus the other and turn in the plane ticket for reimbursement.
One time I missed the last flight home and chose greyhound to get home (usually did it the other way around)
Had a guy who was clearly from Eastern Europe who would ask every time the bus would stop if we were in Los Angeles. -
I don't want you to feel insulted, but comparing something you did 50 years ago to today is apples and oranges. Just think about how society has changed in those 50 years. The dregs of society are the only ones riding greyhound, though the worst of the worst seem to be on Megabus now. Everyone else flies because it is cheap these days.
I'd never ridden the dirty dog until 2000 when I went to my first orientation in Chattanooga. The one way flight was just too expensive for the ATL-Chatt leg of the trip, so I rode the dog. I got laid over at the ATL terminal until the next bus as the first bus was full, which was scary at best. Considering I started my journey in Orlando at the terminal in Crime Hills and felt ok there, that's saying something. I made it to Chatt in something like 18 hours or so. I vowed to never ride the dog again, and I haven't.Dna Mach Thanks this. -
Ya but the company will only reimburse you for up to how ever much the bus ticket cost. What about hometime, you're not going to drive your car home then drive back are you?
-
Im only 100 miles from Omaha and that's how far i'll travel on the bus.Suppose you quit or get fired I wouldn't wanna spend a good 20 hrs on the bus to get home.
-
That's what I did. When my teammate decided to quit and fleece a truck from Prime, his wife picked us up in Chatt. I bought a beater Honda Prelude and drove back in forth between Chatt and Orlando. I could always get a load that could drop at the terminal. FL, not so much. My next company I worked, I moved to the city they were in. It would take a huge salary to have me work for a company that wasn't within 100 miles if I went back to being a company driver.Dna Mach Thanks this.

The furthest ill travel back and forth in my car is 50 miles considering the price of gas and the wear and tear on the car.At kbtransportation many would take their car.Me on the other would need something to get around during hometime. There are advantages to the car.You don't have the layover like buses, don't have to lug everything on and off everytime you have to transfer and can stop when and where u want. But for me its the cost and wear and tear factor mainly.

There's an outfit in my area, that hauls train engineer's in a mini-van back to their home terminal(?)or visa versa. Must be a crummy job, as they are always looking for help.

I've never worked for a company that didn't have a secured yard within 80 miles of my house. I guess that's not a possibility for everyone. I have ridden a greyhound bus once, an experience I would never repeat.

You know, we make fun of Greyhound, but they still fill a need. Believe it or not, I know people that are still deathly afraid of flying, which is plum silliness, as flying is, by far, the best way to go, and in the unlikely event a plane goes down,( or shot out of the sky), it will be quick and painless, unlike a bus crash, where that might not be the case.
