There's a bunch of those Chinese bus companies; you can travel hundreds of miles for $50 bucks. Those waitresses in the Chinese restaurants know the secret. They will stop anywhere to pick you up and let you off anywhere you want. Can smoke and take a small cooler of beer.Interplanet Janet Thanks this.

I love reading stories about greyhound, and i'm glad to hear others opinions and lives, but my question was "why do they do it"
-
Most obvious reasons I think would be cheap and no other means of transportation.

Apparently, there's a Greyhound bus museum in Hibbing, Minn.( I know, I'm running) that is supposed to be pretty cool. I heard of a book called, "Hounds of the Road" documenting the history and drivers stories over the years, that is supposed to be pretty interesting.

Truck driving has a very high turn over rate. For example a 400 truck company will hire about eight drivers a week to fill seats. Three of them drivers won't make it through orientation. They'll fail the medical, drug test or background check. Three more of them drivers will quit within 6 months. That leaves two good hires out of eight. Most likely they'll quit within three years. Very few have longevity. Now take a company like Swift that has 16,000 drivers. They are herding them through like cattle. With mega carriers any penny pinching means big bucks. Swift again, save $5 across the drivers and you saved $80,000. Save $200 on transportation to school and they saved $3.2 million. It's not chump change. That's one reason driver's get nickeled and dimed to death on their paychecks. It adds up.pattyj and "semi" retired Thank this.
