Heading over Donner Pass, my student at the wheel (and doing great). Discussed the infamous rollover video and the reasons why I think the event happened (fear creating tunnel vision, idiocy of being taught never to downshift on a downgrade and therefore not knowing how to recover a gear, "Yankee Doodle" steering AND stomping on the brakes in the middle of a yank, etc).

Headed deadhead from Sacramento area to Reno to do a drop and hook with stops in Medford and Eugene. My student will get a taste of Donner both empty and loaded (albeit with a light load). Hopefully my student will get far enough north on I-5 to run the Siskiyou Pass, but might run out of hours.

Beautiful day and I had us stop at the rest stop at the top of Donner, one of those on my "bucket list" of places to take a 10 in the future. Hiking trails and the smell of Ponderosa Pine on a warm day in the mountains. Doesn't get better than that.

In Raphine, VA petro....I had few words with the terminal leader in Richmond VA. The load I am on goes to target in west Jefferson, OH. The trailer had 2 get 2 tires replaced, and according to plus 1 wants me there at 1045 on 23rd which is pushing it. But with the set back with the tires I could not make it. .............So I went to window gave the guy at the desk in the terminal my truck number, ask me what help did I need. I told him about the situation with the trailer and the plus 1 time...... I asked for the true delivery window, he said sorry I can't give that out.... I said fine can you directly me to someone who can.... Then a Fl came over and said we can't give you that information. I said ok is the terminal manger busy or in a meeting. The terminal manger actually came told basically the same thing, the other 2 said. I said fine ill just put that ill get there the plus 1 time...... The terminal manager said is that the correct time you will be there I said nope. But if you lie about the time I can be there ill lie about the time I get there and I walked out......... After 10 years with this company all ticket and accident free, I just might say the hell with it I am looking for a different company, or just get out of trucking

    WOW! Just wow...

... I've never had an issue getting actual windows from DM's at Jurupa Valley, they volunteer it. If I were you I'd take it upstairs another notch with corporate and complain about the lack of support in Richmond, VA. It would do us all a favor. There's no excuse for them to withhold that information.

I asked my DL about the instructions to office people to not reveal true windows and he said there were no such instructions. I called in about a week later and luck of the draw got my FL who was helping on the phones who said the same thing. I believe the situation like the basic procedures varies by terminal as if they were all separate entities coincidentally named Swift.

If anyone, company or owner, is wondering where the freight is Command (the O/O load board) has been instructed to not offer us any loads out of Denver or Laredo because Swift is so overbooked. If you're stuck in an area with no loads call the planners and ask for a reposition, empty paid loaded, to one of the above.

Last Friday (the 18th) Command had NOTHING out of Denver and I had to wait on a load from Swift.

Funny what a difference a few days can make.

At The Gold Strike hotel in Jean, NV. It was still over 90 when I parked the truck @ 9:30 pm and I REALLY hate to idle my truck. CDL rate is about $30, much better deal than The Orleans.

Delivered a Costco load to their business center store in Las Vegas then headed to Henderson to pick up a load from Ocean Spray headed for Colton, CA. It WAS supposed to be a drop-n-hook but turned into a live load because they were behind. Good thing I was paying attention as they forgot to give me a seal with the paperwork but there was a seal number on the BOL.

Just do a mac 22 in that case, and leave it up to CSR to adjust the times.

I've been told the same thing when I deal with night and weekend people - sorry, I can't give you such classified information because it would upset the operational integrity of the company as a whole.
It's a load of BS. If they won't be honest with me I see no reason to be with them, and we can both play at that game.
Mac 9 and 22 are my best friends.

for a long time whenever a preplan came through I would copy paste the trip number and freeform a message asking what the delivery times were. Most of the time I got a response back with the times or that there was no window. Finally my DM told me to mac 13 the planners who texted the preplans, but that got big zilch zero nada response. So I would set the delivery time with the mac 2 (loaded call) to see if there we a window or not. because if there were a window, the time would be accepted otherwise would get a message to send mac 22 and contact DM immediately. then I knew the times were set in stone.

Finally my DM got tireeed of that and asked me why I was setting the times out via mac2's. I told her it was a trick I use to find out if there is a window on the loads and her response was that 'tricks are for kids', to just send her a quick freeform and would tell me the windows lol. That worked for a while but she got tired of telling me the windows again after only a couple weeks. I started having problems with her auto dispatching me when I sent in mac 31's,
and the coup de grace was sending me out for a drug test 56 miles away with only 1 hour to get there under threat of drug test refusal.

I left Swift about 4 months ago, and I am monumentally happy for it. Not gonna knock anybody who trucks the Swift way, but I had a major problem with the control freakism.
