Yeah years ago we took the truck home and used it for transportation while at home, but, this was long before Q-comm. Today, you park it and leave it until you come back on duty.

As someone that used to do some programming it would be so easy for me to log every time it was reconnected and where it was when it was reconnected. Good luck with this.

Just thinking @Stew209, you still have to put fuel in that thing even when you have unplugged that turd and those companies are paying attention to your fuel usage...just saying.

Not even the fuel usage would be as noticed as the mileage would be. Shut the truck down one day, its started back up on another, and taadaa you have X amount of miles missing from the last reported miles when shutdown, and from where it was started back up. Let us know when your fired for doing something like this then have issues getting a job because you have something like a tampering with company equipment on your DAC.

I've put 100 miles on the truck some weekends when I went home, or on a 34 close to a decent sized city. Definitely not every 34 or even every time I went home, but it has been done a couple times.
Whats that around $60 in fuel maybe 4-5 times a year? No one is missing that lol.

OP, if you have to use the truck on home time then go for it. Depending on the company they probably won't even say anything..

@Sherlock510, are you owner operator or company? I don't know what company you are with but the companies that some of my friends worked with, they knew when that truck moved they also kept an eye on that fuel. If I am not mistaken, don't you have to put in mileage when fueling and don't the companies keep up with that? Just asking...

My company has about 3000 drivers.

    $60 x 4 times a year = $240

If only a quarter of the drivers do that:

    $240 x 750 = $180,000

Ya, who is going to miss that...

@AquariusDoll - I am a company driver. We don't add in truck mileage when fueling, only when we turn in our trips.

@Pmracing - That $180,000 in fuel is money well spent if it helps retain drivers.
Let's take those 3,000 drivers and say they will end up using roughly 7,000 gallons ea. this year.

    3,000 drivers x 7,000 gal. = 21,000,000 gallons.... X the average diesel price $3.84

....$80 million in fuel.. So yea, that $180k in fuel used for ya drivers to get around ain't ####..
