I miss the old 15 hour rule system that worked just fine. If a driver needed a 2 hour nap he could extend his day 2 hours. THAT was safer than the 14 even though they say the new rules are about "safety". I push it now because I know out of that 14 hours I have to give up pre trip time and that stupid baby sitter half hour break.
I have always heard the biggest driving force "lobbying congress" behind the changes are Teamsters union, rail roads, ATA.

After u sign in(the start of the day or coming out of sleeper Berth)off duty is only for lunch purposes but your 14 hours is still counting down from when you first signed into the system no matter how much off duty use example : you start your day @0600 you are done no matter what by 2000. The way we cheat on it we can drive while it's showing on duty. The screen ask if u want to go to driving when you start moving we simply hit the touch screen and say skip and it stays in on duty mode while driving.

that will not work with a proper logging device. About the only thing that they do get correct is whether you are driving or not. If you can drive and keep it in on-duty not driving status then the device is not compliant. How does your company reconcile miles vs time at the end of the day when you cover 600 miles in 4 hours driving? Entirely possible according to what you said.
There is still a lot of confusion among drivers about what constitutes a valid ELD. Many still believe that by running DDL or Eclipse logbook programs on a laptop they have "electronic logs" - clearly not true. -
We only do this when you are in a sticky situation and usually pass our 11 hour drive time . It's compliant the software we use cause we haul hazmat some of the most dangerous stuff on the planet. Sometimes you run out of drive time you have to find somewhere to go into the sleeper if the rest area or truck stop is full.

I know my fuel economy will go down because of a possible tighter log schedule so I'll have to drive faster.
And no more mulitiple 20 rest area breaks.
But it is gona be the new law so everyone will be in the same set of rules, which will eventually cause rates to go up. And will encourage customers to allow more overnight parking.
Though I'm not sure my truck will run over 62mph.RERM Thanks this. -

@65 mph X 11 = 715.
Now for you to reach that 65 mph avg you need to hustle it. You'll find yourself a tad over 68 mph.

I will drive my same 60 to 61 that I do now, I plan my loads to keep to that schedule. I run the least amount of miles for the most revenue. the only problem I foresee is possibly getting to a place to park for the evening, but since I tend to be solar powered it really shouldn't affect me much at all. I will adapt.\\
at lunch in the office today I was told that some of our shippers were being contacted about letting guys park so their clocks wouldn't start. it will be like every other change that has occurred, I will adapt and overcome.
heck my avg week is 2000 miles, if I had a big house with a crapper, I wouldn't a rats behind. that's my biggest problem in life, when I wake up, I have to check out the facilities rather quickly, I guess a 5 gallon bucket with a camper seat is in my future along with a case of glade air freshener.
