    2012 I spent $52,200
    2013 I spent $30,700
    2014 so far $ 6,700

This is on an 2003 pete, lots of money but it's new from radiator to the back rear end.
oil, tires, all components rebuilt, air bags everything
All repairs done at home, no repairs on the road
Old truck, every bit as dependable as a new 2015

I would call around to get your own pricing. 18K is higher then I have heard anyone say they paid.

Fastrack is advertising $12,500 right now for a 48' system (http://www.fastraktarps.com/fastrak-pricing/).

well, that all definitely makes me feel a little less stressed about it all. And yeah, we have a Maint. Acct but it seems like every time we get some money built up in it, something else breaks, lol

It's a 2003 century ... that being said it's an EGR truck and to be honest, a large portion of the things we've had to repair have been related to the EGR system. VPOD's, turbo's, actuators and numerous other things. Right now it's the EGR cooler.

He does what he can, but when it comes to most of the EGR stuff, the codes the computer throws aren't clear enough for us to know exactly what is wrong with the system. We know the EGR cooler is cracked because freightliner tried to get us to let them fix it.

I'm honestly thinking that if this truck didn't have an EGR system in it we wouldn't be so frustrated with it.

That being said, we're hoping that once we get this EGR cooler fixed it'll help with a lot of the other problems we've been having with the truck (all symptoms of the above issue).

Oh, and we'll have to find out where that oil leak is at. :biggrin_2552:

He'll be home tomorrow though, so he can work on the truck over the weekend. And spend some time with me :love7:

Always carry the long form in the truck, that's all you need to show proof.

Team Sohn, do you have the first DD 12.7 egr engine, or the 14L? I remember those first ones burning up because they didnt have adequate cooling capacity. Hence the 14L. My last truck was an 05 Century. Ran great, but went thru a turbo, egr, egr cooler in 2 years.

My 07 pete with an 06 Cat, Spent $19,000 last year and $6,000 so far this year.

Pound Puppy - it's a 14L. That being said, we've gotten that EGR Cooler off the truck and discovered when we got to the gasket on the top, that the gasket is blown. We are both of the opinion that Freightliner was blowing smoke up our collective rear ends when the told Hubby that the EGR Cooler was cracked, had already been welded and needed to be replaced. EGR Cooler has been removed and thoroughly cleaned and we can't see any cracks.

Hubby plans on rigging up a way to pressure test the exhaust side, just to be sure, but the way things look, there isn't a darn thing wrong with the cooler other than that blown gasket. We'll replace the gasket, all the little pieces of hose, clamps, etc.

It's definitely been a learning experience! And one that we ended up saving us about $2,200 by learning! Always like those types of lessons!

We're also going to replace the turbo hoses (those blue ones) because when Hubby got home and I met him up at the truck, when he pulled the hood I noticed they were "bulging" quite a bit. Rather safe than sorry.

One other thing related to this whole mess that I think we need to do while he's home ... replace the muffler. As much soot as I'm seeing internally on the parts we removed (and are cleaning) I'm sure that muffler is choked with it too. So yeah, we'll end up spending a bit of money but no where near $2,200 AND we'll be replacing things that would have had to be replaced down the line anyway. win win :)

team sohn... you done did good bhat y attempting ( and doing ) your own repairs.... there are many repair manuals available ( for a fee ) that can explain how to do must repairs including replacing the head.... most external engine repairs can be done using good reference material and a little time and patience... well done:biggrin_25514:

That's is about $90,000. Fitzgerald has new Peterbilt gliders for $135,000. I also have 2003 Peterbilt. Fortunately , I have only spent about $12,000/year on maintenance the last few years. I think I'll trade before I have to spend the big bucks on major repairs. And have new truck, glider or fully new.
