Regarding a cracked windshield, what constitutes a violation? The crack is almost hidden by the driver's wiper blade and measures 14 inches long or more. Is this a definite ticket?
What about my cracked windshield?

A crack or chip is okay if it's < 19mm in size (3/4"). Yours is much larger than than. Hidden =/= okay.
You'd be cited.Skydivedavec Thanks this. -
Threre's a definite regulation for windshields, try a search on "Windshields" - I've seen it posted before.
Not yet at a terminal or somewhere you can get it swapped out?Skydivedavec Thanks this. -
Thanks for the prompt response. I thought so. Of course my dispatcher doesn't see this as a major concern, but at what cost to him, right? I have an appointment for the new install.
Thanks again!blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
Texas DOT told me that if the chip or bullseye is outside the wiper blade coverage area, it's generally not going to be considered a violation.
They might mention it but not write you up for it.Skydivedavec Thanks this. -
4 inches from top or bottom or sides. is the safe zone.
14 inches however might be a different story.
I asked the very same question and someone posted the reg.
when company says your ok. I tell them I don't want the csa and neither does the company. they usually change there tune.Skydivedavec Thanks this. -
Yep. I got stopped am Texas for a bullseye that the company said was OK. That's what the trooper used as his probable cause. Gave me a roadside level 2Skydivedavec Thanks this.

If you want it changed, just encourage it to grow before you hit the yard, a long crack is certainly a violation.
Panhandle flash and Skydivedavec Thank this. -
It is a violation, on the other hand DOT rarely if at all cares if it's outside your line of view. I pass 2 level 2 inspections with 2 cracks, one on the top at the middle doing an L shape about 7-8 onches going down and 5-6 on base of the L, and rhe second doing an S starting on the driver button corner about 10-15 inches, the two DOT officers that saw it didn't even mention to me or nothing.
Skydivedavec Thanks this. -
i believe its 4 inches from the top or the bottom your safe and other than that rock chips must be able to be covered by a quarter.
i would look it up for you but honestly too lazy at the moment, its spelled out in the regs if you wanted to look it up
