are you leased onto a carrier or Independent? 2.19 is low if ur independent but leased on at 75% thats not a bad gig. Aslong as u stay at 2.75mile all miles u can turn decent profit.

 

Independent. And yes as I stated I could probably do better if I pushed and chased the money. "as long as u stay at 2.75mile all miles u can turn a decent profit" There are way to many factors to make a blanket statement like that. Where do you run? Whats your overhead? Whats your end state, where do you wanna be? What do you consider a decent profit?
I bet there are tons of guys out there that can say they make a decent profit running $1.90 all miles, keeping in mind that all miles is WAY different than loaded miles.

 

with the average rate of reefer freight going for $2.60 a mile(which seems really really high) and it only costing $1.64 a mile to move that truck, if you charge $3-$4, they'll go somewhere else. Why are they going to hire you when for $2 they can hire somebody else, or $1.70 they can hire a company they've actually heard of (England)

 

2 things come to my mind. Quality of service and reputation. Im sure there is enough customers who have become fed up with companies like England and Swift and are willing to pay a little more with the comfort of knowing there freight will get there.

 

You don't even own a truck and you know something about rates? You don't even understand what an average is, make blanket statements about the costs to run trucks, and have no clue about supply/demand.

 

You can't fix stupid, but bankruptcy can park his broke even, broken down truck behind a shop trying to figure out who to beg the scratch from to even pay the tow bill.
That is the only logic that seems to sink in with his sort of thinking.

 

I've always wondered about O/O rates and asked two of them at a TA one night what they hauled for ? pulling company trailers both said 2.30 to 2. 50 a mile .... one had all the electronic gear for gps /Google . etc etc and would do a search about pick up site / waiting area and deadhead miles. He said after it was all done ( counting deadhead ) at the end of the year hes average was 1.73 a mile

 

Not many who haven't heard of England, or had to detour around the England trlr blocking 2 lanes and the median on the local interstate. Thank you for your service!
