The Freightliner Classics are nice, I agree with you on that, but he Columbias, etc shake like the Internationals imo.

Well friday was my last day with roadrunner. I broke down again for the 8th time 3rd time being towed. I had truck trailer and load taken to the yard and I am done with this truck.I already have a plan and start on Monday will fill you all jn later. Maybe short term or long term. we will see but I have to make some money quick and this seems like it will work for that only thru the holidays then the rate drops a little pays 960 on 560 miles home every day and off or work on weekends my choice loaded one way light and mt going back, drop and hook both ends. louisville to chicago and back if your interested you can pm me. I don't know if this is considered recruiting if it is I am very sorry. I'm just a driver trying to help someone who might be in the same sinking boat I am in. By the way for those of you considering roadrunner they had absolutely nothing to do with my leaving it was all in the truck and its problems. i think this def situation is going to affect a lot of companies and drivers. Nothing but respect to truckers report if I messed up and hang in there truckers.

I was thinkin about road runner but I've decided to lease a truck where I'm at for 1 year and buy my own truck and trailer and run my own authority

scottied67 so what are you averaging per mile and what lanes do you run the most?
Looking at that rate sheet, looks like the best lanes are in the North east.

Average is in the buck fifties.

I live in northern California so coming off hometime I go to the Livermore terminal and take the first load going out that is not covered. After that on the way to the next terminal, call them ahead of time and see what terminals they are re-loading out then make my choice. I shoot for 3000 miles a week. So I might go from Livermore to Seattle then see if they have a Dallas load out of there. Next week after that shoot for California either northern or southern then loop back up to Seattle. Or take a cheap run up to Chicago then shoot for California again. Get back home and take a cheap load to Charlotte or Atlanta. Stuff like that. This last time I got a good paying load from Los Angeles to Seattle and turned and burned right back to Los Angeles then deadheaded home 350 miles.

Another good one I have done is getting into Detroit terminal, run out to 1st stop Denver final in Salt Lake City. Other owner ops told me to vector towards the NorthWest for good paying freight but the RR agents seem to only offer me cheap rates out of SLC going in any direction. It's gotten to the point I'd rather just stick with T2T freight anyway. Got a buck fifty out of SLC to Columbus OH. Once I got there was about 100 miles from Cuyuhoga Falls terminal or Cincinnatti terminal. Been to CLE term already so called Cinci and they were so happy for me to come down they paid me deadhead cash which was very nice.

Need more than a $1.55 ... With the added expense of tolls, plates, trailer rental and maintenance ... I would only be breaking even at $1.55

It is basically the same pay as Swift on the cheapest routes, just that we have to pay the tolls, plates trailer rent and maintenance up front rather than indirectly thru short miles and no fuel discounts..

You can study the rate charts up there and cherry pick the best lanes to get your CPM averages up. Using good paying brokers to get the $1.80 - $2 buck chuck is also available but I have heard they new independent contractors signing on will only be able to use the trailer pool fleet unless they purchase their own trailer. This will limit the broker freight for the new guys because the company will focus on keeping those IC's in network. Occasionaly you might get into a place with no terminal like SLC and have to use the RR agents who in my experience don't pay very well. Tried calling outside brokers to book some loads, the Backhaul dept finds some excuse not to approve the broker or shipper various reasons like bad credit .

The most important thing to me is that I am monumentally happy.
