I was always told to aim for them because generally they won't be there when you get there....... I've aimed at every one I've hit and still hit them, 6 so far ;) Granted, I've only hit them with the front corner of whatever truck I was driving at the time while I would have likely center punched the suckers had I actually swerved as every one of the suckers were standing in the middle of my lane except for a couple that happened to be crossing the road in front of me. I had one sprint into my trailer one night long ago, wrecked the deer, didn't hurt my trailer. I just hit one on I-94 near Jackson, MI last week that was one of the most indecisive deer I've hit ;) A six pointer was standing in the hammer lane as I was passing another truck. He went left, then he went right, back left finally ending up hitting the right front corner of the truck bouncing into the path of the truck I had almost cleared with that truck finishing him off. It cracked the bumper of the Pro Star rental I was stuck in for that week, and it also pushed that bumper in a touch.

I always make sure to get a good grip on the wheel. Don't brake hard , since it could cause you to loose control , especially in wet or slick conditions. Never ever try to dodge a deer , not worth the risk of leAving the road and winding up in the ditch or worse in a roll-over.

I cant see hitting the brakes hard just to avoid damage from a deer, you run the risk of a load shift, regardless how much securement you have, you brake hard enough, youll get a load shift. Either that, or that 4wheeler thats riding 2 car lengths behind you eats your ICC. More trouble then its worth in my opinion. Id rather let off the fuel and coast till clear or hit. I just cant see hitting the brakes hard to avoid hitting a deer.

i like my companies policy about deer and other animals. Simply put, there better be blood or fur on your truck if it involves a deer. swerve and wreck to miss it and damage the truck and automatic termination. pretty simple.

Got hit by the second deer in 3 years about a month ago. He hit the exact same front left corner and punched out my driver's side headlight just like the other buck did a little over 3 years ago.

This guy did a little more damage though. Broke a piece off the fibreglass bumper and destroyed the foglight and cracked the fender (T660 is a 3 piece hood as it turns out). Anyway body shop wants to replace the fender and the bumper all adding up to big dollars, I just told the insurance agent to send me the check I will decide what gets fixed and what doesn't. I can't see spending over $1500 on a new plastic bumper and foglight, I'd rather use that money to buy a Magnum type moose repeller, with integrated bumper. The cracks in the hood/fender I can live with for now. $3500 for a fender or $7600 for the whole hood, other side has hail damage, may just save up and look around and get a used hood off a wrecked truck someplace and have it painted and put on at some point.

I hit 3 deer at once in tx 3 years ago.. it was past 1 am and the 2 lane rd didn't have a shoulder to stop.. what a night it was.. I was doing warp speed, didn't get a chance to blink. The deer, oh deer, disintegrated all over the right side of the truck.. there were deer parts all over truck and on the step deck.. deer jesus.. new bumper, steer tire, fender, lights and grill were put in..

Braking hard, lowers your front end, can cause a load shift, and you to loose control, also increases damage to the truck, as the deer does not go under the frame.

grab the wheel with both hands, keep the truck straight, let off the throttle, and hit the blasted stupid thing... square on with the bumper... a whole lot less damage to the truck.

I can't tell you how to hit a deer but I pegged a Black Angus pretty good. Wet roads and 78k. Eased on the brakes, gripped the wheel tight, and held my lane.

That's my philosophy with 4 wheelers too.
