Better get your eyes checked. I've never been blinded by someone flashing their high beams at me to come over. Considering that 99.999999999% of the time when someone does that it's for a millisecond. Now if that blinds you old codgers you may wanna go back and get another physical and quit whining. Doesn't bother me in the least. Oh, and try not staring straight into the headlights of the truck you are passing when you look in the mirror. You can look in the mirror and not have to stare into the headlights. Wow, it just amazes me how much some quys like to ##### and complain. Like little whiny housewives with nothing better to complain about. I'm thinking even some truck manufacturers don't agree with your whining. I drive a 2015 truck and guess what it has on the turn signal??? Yep, you guessed it, a little "high beam flash" slider button to give a millisecond of flash. But watch out, ya might get blinded, lol.

They started doing it because they see trucks doing it.
You can also use your markers too the same as you do to say thank you. Its massive pet pev with me and it's funny how the brights always come soon as you look in the mirrors.

Ok, here is my 2c on this topic. If you are blinded by a quick flash of the brights, your eyesight needs to be checked. If the other driver has his high beams on all the time and is coming towards you then it is a pain in the ###. Lets not get 'PC' on this topic, if a driver wants to flash me the brights or dim the lights to signal me over then that's cool. I don't mindlessly pull over on their signal but always check distances anyway. The point is they are trying to assist you which in the pouring rain is appreciated. I personally don't signal other drivers but that's my choice. I disagree that the flashing of brights is solely an emergency signal as it has many uses to different road users.

at night this is especially hard on your eyes because your eyes are adjusted to the dark.

flashing your brights can ruin someones night vision temporarily and when driving 80,000# around all it takes is a second or two and things can go terribly wrong.

its not as bad during the day but a lot of these headlight lenses and lights are ridiculously bright.

high beams during the day is ok.

    at night, deadly.

for some reason they time it just as you look in the mirror.

i view the use of flashers this way,
if you are 20 MPH or more under the speed limit you are now considered a road hazard and as such your HAZARD lights should be deployed.

been doing it all over the US for nigh on 30 yrs and no tickets ever.

It's really stupid when driver's flash their brights, but it's also stupid when they turn their lights off and than on quickly in general. They should not do that UNLESS the driver they are signalling to is an emergency situation such as a highway ramp and a cluster of cars and they need to get over quick.

You're right - good drivers do not need help safely changing lanes. I do not signal drivers in front of me trying to make lane changes because I know this. It can be more of a distraction than a help to do so. But if the driver is in a cluster of cars and they need to get over quickly I will flash them (not hi-beam them but turn lights off than on again) when it's safe for them to get over.
