    Hey guys.

Posted this over in the welcome wagon, but I wanted to expand on it a little bit.

Now, once I've completed this course, have my licence, and start looking for a job, what sort of thing should I be looking for in potential employers?
Obviously, being a new driver with low experience, I can't be choosy, but what are some basic things I should be keeping an eye out for?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Edit: Yes, i realise the US and Australia are different countries, but companies are the same worldwide no?

Maybe you should try posting this in one of the foreign trucking spots on here?

unless you plan to come to the US?

Yeah i probably should have, but as I added in the edit, the country shouldn't make a difference, as I'm only after some general info :)

Well, the whole shooting match is as different as going walkabout is to slapping yo' mama after a great bowl of grits.

The classes of license are different, the weight limits and most certainly, employers.

When I came here, I threw ALL previous knowledge out the window.

As suggested, try the foreign driver section, kind Sir.

And finally . . . Go All Blacks. Nyahh.

OK, let me clarify again. I am well aware that there is diffferent licence classes, weight limits yada yada yada. I'm not asking about those.

What i am asking about, is what sort of things, regarding a potential employer, should I be looking out for. What sort of things would raise a red flag for you, and make you think "Hey, that's a bit shifty, maybe these guys wouldn't be to good to work for."

Does that make a bit more sense?

    And finally... Aussie Aussie Aussie!!!

I would ask about pay, training (since you are inexperienced) and any benefits. In the U.S. drivers are usually paid mileage or percentage. A few are paid hourly (most work locally). I would look at turnover rate, too. If drivers tend to stay more than a few months, then the company will likely treat drivers well. Another thing I would be interested in knowing is how long the company has been in business? Another is how well they take care of their equipment and how old is the equipment? If possible, you may want to speak with some of their current drivers. In the United States the government gives a safety rating to carriers. If something similar is available in your country, you could check their safety rating. That could be an indicator of how they maintain their equipment.

Thanks G/MAN, that's exactly the kind of thing I wanted to know. As I said, I am new and inexperienced, and while I can accept the fact that I will cop my fair share of #### starting at the bottom, I don't want to be completely, uh....thinking of a rules friendly word to use....
