Ive been out of the LTL industry for 2yrs, worked for a large and popular carrier doing p&d and some linehaul. I decided to return to LTL. Two option i have is Fed Ex Freight and Estes Express both p&d or linehaul with either one but im leaning towards linehaul. What are the pros and cons of both carriers. Thanks

Yes sir._. I interviewed with both of them and they are processing my application. The one good thing ihear about estes is as a driver you dont work the dock and thats not the case at fed ex freight , they make you work it which i dont really mind working the dock as long as i get SOME drive time

I think you just answered your own question. Go with Estes for your new job. Not sure where you live but theres nothing worse than getting out of warm truck in freezing cold knowing you have to work the dock.

ODFL will put you straight on as a line driver - Parsons,KS is advertising now, for example.

Only downside is you'll have to bag out till a schedule becomes available - and most of the lower bids are night runs.

Personally I liked bagging out - motel each night, same truck for the week. They're paying 55cpm starting to top out at 60 something after 2-3 years. Just throw that out there.

Good luck either way - most Fed Ex and Estes drivers I've met are pretty happy. B.

Thanks for your input guys._ im in California ._i her ODFL is good too.. Infact the other day at a truck stop i spoke to a Estes team driver and she said she has friends that left Estes linehaul to go to Old dominion because they pay 55-60 cpm no dock work . Im going to keep them in mind. She did say Estes is REEAALLY GOOD too. So we"ll see

Look up the benefits. Dock work might be required but you still get paid the same, 22+ for unloading trailers and sleeping everyday at home. Overtime after the eight hour, etc. Just saying.

A quick update, I decided to go with Estes over FED EX Freight.... I been here at Estes for a week and a half, and I think I made one of the best decisions Ive ever made. I've been driving for over 10 years, I 've worked several jobs, in several different industries including 6 years in freight with another major carrier and this feel like a perfect match for me. I ve always heard good things about them, and SO FAR..... I can echo the things I heard about them.. great company.
