Most carriers only pull a 3 year MVR. Anything before that is usually not considered.

A dui is a criminal offense and will remain on your record forever. Traffic offenses fall off after a certain number of years. A person needs to tell them about DUI'S no matter how old.

A DUI will remain on your criminal background when checked, but will drop off most MVR's after 3 years. Speeding is considered a criminal offense, but will drop off after 3 years in most states. There are some states that offer a longer MVR history. But, most insurance companies and carriers only consider the last 3 years of your MVR. Your criminal background is treated differently. With a DUI, different carriers treat them differently. Most will not consider them after 10 years. There are some who won't hire anyone with a DUI, regardless of time. My advice to anyone applying for a job in this industry is to read the application carefully and answer all questions truthfully.

Depends on what state you come from. Here in GA NOTHING drops off of your driving record, period. The only thing that is "dropped off" is the points that are associated with each offense after 2 years for minor and 3 for majors. As for DUI's you are stuck with them for your life on your record, although like everyone says, most companies only ask for the past 3 years.

I know that what PA does, because my dad went through this, even though you move out of state for years (he moved to FL for 5 years) when he moved back to PA they maintained his drivers license number with record. So the 5 DUI's he had in the past, never disappeared even though on his FL he was squeaky clean. Same thing though with them, nothing falls off just the points after a period of time.

So I submitted the online application a couple of days ago, and mentioned my last DUI on the app. First call to the company recruiter today. Nice young lady. She couldn't find my app so she asked if we could do it over the phone, and I agreed. We got into the DUI part and I told her about the one. Later, reviewing the information I'd given with her, I spilled my guts about the other two DUI's, and also about doing 48 hours lockup for the last one. I felt like damaged goods after that. She thanked me for coming clean and said she'd get back to me tomorrow after she talks to her supervisor to see if I can still be pre-approved. I thanked her and said goodbye. So we'll see what happens next.

Ok, to wrap up this thread...recruiter called back today as promised. She's a very pleasant person to do business with. We completed my application over the phone and selected an orientation date. So pending the background check I guess we move forward. Thanks to all who shared comments.

    lcfd15 Thanks this.

In Illinois all violations remain on your MVR for 7 years. Now if you request a "court purpose MVR" it will show all violations from your entire driving career.
