Sooo... I, and most others have been doing it with paper for decades without any issues because we're responsible and we should be punished because some won't be responsible and because new drivers (like you) can't handle the personal responsibility of policing themselves and need someone to hold their hands?
We get it. You like being told exactly what to do and when to do it. You like the fact that you don't have to think. That's fine. I'm glad you're happy, but don't try to convince me that it's a better way, because, for many of us, it isn't. You have nothing to compare it to because you have no longevity in this business, so you didn't get used to the real way to be a truck driver. All you know is is what you've been programmed. We know it's coming and we know we'll either have to adapt or move on, but that doesn't mean we have to like it or go quietly while a bunch of robot-minded drones take over what once was a great industry filled with men and women that worked hard and did it without being babysat.
Oh, and quit with your BS about it not being the megas and the fault lies with the "billy big riggers" and "cowboys" as you so eloquently put it. Take a look around you and see how many of the issues out here are caused by megas and steering-wheel holders. I sure see a lot more megas in the ditch and wrapped up with other vehicles than I do other drivers.

Elogs sure made that Walmart driver safe in NJ [emoji13]
joseph1135, loose_leafs and Joetro Thank this. -
E-log + Dash Cam = Shark Repellant. Unless of course, you are indeed at fault.

For the umpteenth time, elogs compel the driver to drive legal 97% of the time. Nothing about safely, just legal. If driving legal equals to driver driving safely, that is the only stretch one can make that elogs make a safer driver. But in the end, it is the driver and only the driver that determines safe handling of his truck and not what medium he logs his driving on.peterd and joseph1135 Thank this. -
E-logs don't make you safe. Hell they don't even make you compliant. It's up to you to do that. They only eliminate paper and give people the "illusion" of safety. Who says I can't run over 11 hours in a day? What they do, in a way is keep you somewhat "compliant". It keeps the clock ticking for you, so to speak. But, as with paper, there are tricks to get around things, and it's up to the safety/compliance guy to figure them out. As I've stated. I'm on e-logs. They don't bother me. I feel they keep some guys more efficient, because you can't screw off and back it up later to make it look good.
Joetro Thanks this. -
Dash cams, e-logs, eaton-vorad, the smith system, Santa Claus, Jesus Christ, and your mother sitting next to you aren't going to make you safe. Neither are speed limiters or anything else the special interests or big companies want to throw at us. The only thing that makes a SAFE driver SAFE is a SAFE driver. The human component is still there. And all these things that are supposed to give the general public a warm fuzzy feeling in their hearts, minds and down to their ####les dont mean a ###### thing when the only person who can make a difference is the idiot they put behind the wheel. And that's not just young new drivers by the way. I've seen some seriously stupid old timers out here who think the world needs to get out of their way and they are owed something. And guess what? There's no amount of money or training that's going to change the human condition. I don't care if you raise driver pay to a dollar a mile and o/o compensation to $5 a mile. People who are idiots are going to be idiots and that's all there is to it.

From what I have been reading and from what I've heard, there is a big range as to what is allowed in how tight the machines are used.
I expect a whole lot more teeth gnashing if FMCSA gets everyone on the same page there.
My friend, at a company that gives no slack, absolutely loathes his Peoplenet. It probably has more to do with safety officer there than with the actual e-log.loose_leafs, joseph1135 and Joetro Thank this. -
Control of either the freight market by the megas, or of drivers by the government (or both). Compliance is not about safety, it's about control.
All of us who have been out here 15+ years (like yourself) are not being cry babies, we just know what happens when you let the camels nose get under the tent. Just look at our brothers across the pond and what they go through.joseph1135, MJ1657, Joetro and 2 others Thank this. -
How about the cost of this for someone running all older trucks? Will these elogs plug right into all of my 3406's? Just right into the computer system right? Oh wait a sec.....cowboy_tech, joseph1135, loose_leafs and 1 other person Thank this. -
