One of the companies I spoke with said they paid 65% of the monthly ins premium for the driver only. If ya wanted ins for anyone else you had to pay their entire premium for them...... yikes, and no 401K. So even if the money was at 50K that really crews up the salary. Caledonia is looking better and better than anyone around Ohio area as far as food grade goes. If it wasn't for ins thru the roof we'd be looking good.

I've read over 350 threads written by Indian River drivers who make 30 CPM and get stuck at Clovis NM all the time. Most guys I know now are hauling milk Pa-Laurel MD and love it as they are home but it's grueling. Same place day after day after day. I feel sorry for the familys involved.

I'm sorry to disappoint you, but it's my default setting.

And to think I felt bad for the guys who are home 4 days a month and barely make any more than I do. One man's trash is another man's treasure I guess....

BTW skid not all have crappy expensive insurance. Mine is $23 for me or $44 for the whole family with super low co-pays and Dr visits. An error visit is only $60. Regular Dr is $10

Well, when you work 18 hr days, fuel from bulk tanks and plant Log Book trees all the time it's pretty grueling. No sleeper so you nap over the steering wheel and rough riding trucks beating your back can be just as hard as running Cross Country.

My apathy is at an all time whatever.

i dunno i must have just gotten real lucky. i've got a brand new freightliner with a sleeper, fuel at pilot/flying j and work 12-13 hr days. i dont have to cheat the log book at all to complete any of my runs legally either. if i fib to the book a little its just to get me home a little sooner.

The health insurance industry prices according to age. For someone 20 years old, the monthly cost of health insurance is around 2 or 3 hundred per month. For someone 50 and older, the price is around 5 or 6 hundred per month. If that isn't age discrimination, I don't know what is, so next time you decide to throw around insults like tinfoil mania, perhaps you should do yourself a favor and engage your brain before your mouth / keyboard.

That's true...ins for me has doubled from 38 to 48 and my health is the same. No diseases blood pressure normal non smoker. Same weight for 20 yrs. No reason for it to go up except age.

Alot of the detention issue is everyone gets loaded about the same time and rolls on the yard at the plant at the same time. Processsors order too much milk and push it too hard knowing they cant hold all the loads ordered. Yeah Red if you ever sit in the 'welfare line' over at Winston Salem on a Sunday afternoon wondering if they gonna have enough room to get you unloaded, you know what I am talkin about. We dont run Spartanburg. Milkco in Asheville , NC hands down one of the best plants ever as far as being driver friendly to get you in and out. They dont want you setting waiting to get unloaded. Dairy Fresh.............not so much. Best thing is the producers and other haulers in the milk business. Almost all of the folks who haul milok are some of the best people you could ever work with

After 9/11, the food industry tightened up security, with good reason. The downside - some of the milk plants that make it so difficult to communicate with no phones and no one listening to the intercoms, and bathrooms one has to hunt for with all doors locked leading into the facility. Even though without us, the food industry would grind to a halt, many of these places treat us like sub human apes. Byrne caused me to wait 15 hours. S'pose anyone came out and said "If you need the bathroom, break room, vending area: Nope. Sit in your truck and crap your britches for all we care ape boy. And yes, I am a big boy who can make it happen on my own, but I speak to the complete lack of consideration to we drivers at very many of these places. No phone or intercom at the unmanned gate? Are you kidding me? When you do get in, all the doors are locked so if you pound on the door, maybe someone will know you're there. Ridiculous. Now not every plant is like this, but a few are.
