After Rig Digging and ECM reporting and dyno testing a few trucks, thrashing figures, annoying forum members, used truck dealers, friends and relative strangers . . .

    I finally bought a truck.

    It's a 2001 KW T2000, N14, 13 speed (new), with 3.55 rears on 22.5 lp tires. 960,000 miles on it. Lifetime 6.8 - Driving 6.7 mpg. $12,500 cash. Ex CFI truck. 2 owners. And it's red.

Spent the last two days cleaning the interior and polishing the outside (with ladder and buffer, no less).

Landstar called yesterday and approved my application, so it's just a matter of time now.

Many thanks to Double Yellow, Cowpie and jldilley and Big_D409 for putting up with my incessant questions. I really appreciate it. Thanks also to the forum for having put me in touch with such good folks.

Wish me luck folks - I'm going to need it!:biggrin_25523:

Congrats and good luck to you. Landstar is a great company to work with and I hope you have a great time working with them. Older trucks have a tendency to be a little pricey to keep running but the money you saved on the purchase price should help balance you out when something costly comes up. Welcome to the world of owning your own and have a great time doing it!

That's a good buy and cheap, dependable motor. New transmission and probably clutch I would imagine. If you have to inframe it within a couple of years you'll still be $$$$ ahead. Good luck with Landstar. They're a good company and comments from some guys who say van sucks aside - I believe if a person made a few good contacts there and was running some select lanes they could make excellent money pulling vans on last minute time sensitive freight. I know I would if i was there and who I'd work with - live loading my trailer taking the extra percentage points. Play it smart and don't work cheap.

as long as the truck is in good shape id say you did good, n14 is a good motor, 13's are nice and being new is a big plus, the price sounds great. as long as the motor is good and the truck is in decent shape id say you did well. it took me many months of searching for a early 2000's truck that wasn't either totally ragged out or overpriced. i almost started considering trucks up to 06 but really wanted to stay pre-egr
