Well heck, if you only would have checked on here an hour after you posted your location a week ago you would have met me. But no, you had to go to sleep.
Anyway, fun day today. Dropped off a load in Olive Branch, MS, no empties there of course. So they bobtailed me 3 miles to the Dollar Tree. How convenient is that.
Pull up to the guardshack and the guard comes out with a sheepish look on her face. She goes, "I have the good news and the bad news. The good news is we have empties. The bad news is as you already know, it has been poring rain all morning, and the empties are located in our "grass lot" (AKA, mud lot). Enter at your own risk, Dollar Tree is not responsible for calling the tow truck if I get stuck in the mud.
So I check it out and it's literally one huge mud pit with about 2 inches deep worth of mud. I think it over and say what the ####, go for it. So I bobtail in with the axles locked of course, and the tractor is shimmying and sliding all over the place in 3rd gear, but I'm going ahead in kind of a sideways manner at a steady clip. So I pass up the trailer and go to back in at an angle. Now the tractor is shimmying and sliding the opposite direction since I'm in reverse while I'm also trying to line up and back under the trailer.
Thankfully the last driver cranked the landing gear to the moon so I was able to slide under the front of the trailer as it wasn't going to be able to lift it up with my tractor. Lowered the nose of the trailer down until it was resting on the 5th wheel then coupled to it. Did the whole pretrip thing real quick and now my goal was to get the #### out of that lot.
Well, at this point I look around and say ####, I can't fit turning to the left or the right because the trailers across the way from me are too close and I'm pinned in on both sides by trailers on my side. However, I look straight ahead and there's about a trailer and a half gap between the 2 trailers across from me. Problem is that area was the biggest mud pit of the entire mud pit lot. So I just say #### it and get it up into 5th gear and just plow through the mud, struggling my way through. Then once I cleared the two trailers I had to swing a 135 degree right hand turn to get back to the driveway out of the mud pit. At this time the tractor was struggling to keep going and I just kept right on the throttle until I finally broke through and made it out. The whole time swifty is standing by the buidling smoking waiting for me to get stuck so he could start laughing. Sorry to disappoint you swifty.
Anyways, stopped at the Flying J in Franklin, KY. Stopped early today so I can watch the Bears get smacked around like they have all year long. I enjoy the abuse watching those bums.dieselfuelonly and mickimause Thank this. -

Swift wouldn't have made it 10 feet. That's how you do it right there, hammer down till you get out or can't go any further. Gotta do what you gotta do to get empty trailers this time of the year.stevep1977 and mickimause Thank this.

I've been in that 'grass lot' once before. It had rained pretty hard the night before but was bright sunshine. I made it in, got hooked, having my shoe get sucked off by the gelatinous mud once completely and halfway a couple times. Pulling out it looked like I was at a tractor pull with all the mud flying off my drives.
After that experience I'd be hanging out with Swift until the yard jockey pulled one out for me or the Box "Planner" found me a new MT.stevep1977 and mickimause Thank this. -
Swartz Creek rest area, I-96 in Missed-again. Long day, and another long day tomorrow. Short week, so I think my dispatcher is trying to keep me moving so I don't have a short check right after Christmas.
Either that, or he's trying to get 5 days' work out of me in 3 days...lol
