Texas is a Truck friendly state, they don't need to hurt hard working truckers money to pay the other spendings. Texas know economy depend on goods moved by trucks. If you obey the most signs, drivers will not be bother. Thanks Texas
RGRTim Thanks this. -
Boy oh boy how times have changed. Since the slowdown of the oilfield (and it's traffic) the scales on I37 at Three Rivers are open several times a week and all hours of the day and night. Only saw them open once in the previous year. DOT covering for less moving violations with more scale time?

Texas has been that way since the 80's, used to run down there every week and never saw an open scale, on a rare occasion you might see a random roadside "stop and check".
-
Rhat one south of Dallas has always been open every time I've bwen down that waym
Mr.X Thanks this. -
Ive never really seen many scales open in texas. Ive been told like the few comments above. They dont bother cause they need drivers too haul there loads. I remember driving down I30 going too Arkansas and i accidently left my door open on my trailer. A state trooper was doing radar and had pulled me over. I was honest i thought i closed it. So he just let me go with a written warning closed my door and sent me on my way. Also it kinda does have too deal with the budget. As big of a state texas is. I do think they do not have enough manpower too keep them open. Kinda like PA theyre barely open and i wonder if Alabama even has a scale.

From my experience they open on a random basis always a surprise, better be ready to show them want they want's to see cuz it could happen at anytime.
Texas is also one of the state where i have been pull over while driving more than any Other states, 99% of the time they wanted to see log.
This is the state that i prefer the most, very trucker friendly.
I miss running there a lot's!!! -
The eastbound scale on I20 in Alabama near Mississippi end was running all the truck through today.. Every scale in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama was open...I got the green light prepass for all ... till that first Alabama scale... They had a bunch of trucks parked.... So did Mississippi.... The one scale in Mississippi gave me the green light and the sign said 'truck must enter scales'.. I went with the prepass... Lol
texas scales looked abandoned.... Lol -
When I hauled paper for a company I would go to Texas twice a week and never seen a scale open the time I would drive which was wee hrs in the morning. But otherwise they do open like 5 or 6 am.You still have the chance of a state trooper pulling you over for inspection though. That's happened to me a few times.
