I'd get the Rand... I have the cobra 8000 pro hd..... Pure junk. The darn thing shuts off for no apparent reason and loses gps signal, again, for no apparent reason. Called cobra's tech support line and was walked through how to re-boot the thing and that didn't help much. It held the signal for a while but then lost it again and continually needs re-booted to gain signal again. If I were still doing OTR where I needed a reliable gps I'd make cobra to take their piece of junk back and get a Rand like my wife uses. Yes the Rand still will get you lost or try to put you on No Truck streets sometimes just as the cobra and all the others do, but it has been ultra reliable otherwise for my wife.

I used the 720 for 3 months, my teammate had it. IMO, the extra money is worth it. The processor is 4x faster and you really feel it when loading the routes. Several bugs got worked out and there are many updates that overall make the driving experience easier, more enjoyable and yes, even safer.
But it all depends on what you are going OTR for. I told myself a long time ago that i am doing this strictly to accumulate 1 year of safe driving experience and i am going to take advantage of anything that will help me do it.
Anyways, i have no bills and even with my mentality the money is stacking up quicker than i know what to do with it and i made my $440 investment on this device back in 3 days.
To each their own to be sure.

In reply to both Mark Kling and Eckoh. I have and still do use the Rand Atlas for a lot of my trip preplanning, I thought because of all the years of experience Rand would have a GPS that includes all the roads that are in the Atlas. Wrong answer. Come to find out Rand purchases the GPS information from a third party.
Why should I/We as a customer be needed to update the data for the GPS that I paid a few hundred dollars for. IF there is a FREE app for my phone that I can update I would be more than happy to participate.
I have sent updates to Rand.
I have always and will continue to call shippers and receivers for best directions. Low bridges, construction or ease of turns into the loading zone.
OH well. Happy trails. -
They just released the 730 so I would be sure to get that instead of the 720.
-
Are there any features other than size that the 730 has over the 530? I'm comfortable using a 5 inch GPS.

How do we do trip planning. Does the 730 upload maps from street and trips 2013
