Sucks you have a trainee like that. I'm at my mentors house for home time, I have found a way too run with short times on my clock while on team and usually do 600 to 650 miles depending on traffic and Hills. While here got a message on qc asking if he thought I was ready to test out early. Besides making a wrong turn one time and having a hard time banking in a really tight yard where we ended up sliding tandems all the way back to even get the trailer in the spot he says I'm the best trainee he had had and should make good money. I hope so. I agree that the people at the terminals griping about money are the ones not asking for work. We were at terminal in Lancaster and there were probably 20 people I walked by saying they weren't making money for Christmas. Mentor told me we didn't have a pp or anything on Mac 30 and told me to go to the window and ask for something and watch what happens. I did and they said go to truck and they are going to send something over. They sent over a short 100 mile trip but stacked a 3400 mile trip after it. So from what I see if you don't have anything all you have to do is ask, I know I want to make money and I will bug the crap out of them once I get my own truck next week. Only thing I hate right now is missing my little girls first real Christmas.

Here at the T/A in Demotte, IN. Pulled in and all of about 12-15 trucks here and across the street at the Loves I counted about 8. On my way down South on 65 this morning did not see one truck stop that was over 1/2 full. Stopped at the Flying J in Spice land to get some fuel, due to $3.03/gal when I figure in my bonus points at 10x per gallon. Pulled into the DC and said that they were not releasing any loads until at least 1600. I explained what our Ops Mgr told me yesterday on the phone and showed him the QC msg that I received and he said wait a minute. Then came back to the window and told me to drop my mty and grab my load and head on out. I asked and he said that I was the only one that was authorized to take mine out early so that I can get back up here and take my break before first store at 0400. He said that I must be special to get the authorization. just said thank you and got er done. Now I am 30 miles from first stop. Now can sleep tonight like a normal person and have to drive all night to get here.

I'm a bit west of Topeka, KS at a little 24/7 truck stop.

I LOVE driving on Christmas day. I think it is the least traveled day of the year.

So I've been getting a check engine warning for the past few weeks. It wasn't affecting performance so I've been ignoring it for the most part (after talking to on-road).
While on my 34 at Mt. Vernon, IL it changed to the red STOP engine warning and the engine would not rev past 1000.
I called on-road after checking my fuel filter, which was just about full. Luckily I was already at a TA.
I've had this same problem with 2 other trucks.

They changed the filter and hooked up the computer. The only active codes were for the DPF system though, a bad NOX sensor.
So I'm back to running, and the performance is fine right now. But I still have a constant check engine light with the occasional warning message.
It is something that TA can't fix. It requires a dealer. So I'll be headed to the Denver terminal after I deliver this load of beer in Golden.

For the past several months the engine has been regenning 2-3 times a day. When I last brought it to attention of the Swift mechanic his response was "I wish these things didn't display that message". He said it was normal.
Right. When the truck was new it did it about once a week.

I took a 34, and I idled some of that time - several times.
But I drove 400 miles today with NO regen. That is very strange, since it now usually regens within 100 miles of starting out.
After a 34 it should have been in regen as soon as I hit the highway.

Mine did that. It was the 7th injector whose job it is to initiate regens both passive and forced. They get sooted up then don't squirt the diesel into the exhaust stream so no regen. Meanwhile the DPF filter just straight packs in soot with no way to burn it out. Then comes the dreaded derate.

You're a little bit behind me, we are in Limon CO TA for the holiday meal.

That about sums up what the TA guy told me.

There is some snow coming in tonight. Denver is expected to get around 8 inches.
I'm hoping to catch the storm at the tail end so I don't really have to deal with much by tomorrow evening.
    I'm hoping...

I'm also hoping that I don't get de-rated before I can hit the terminal.

Another hope is that this fix will take a couple days at a dealer so I'll get a motel room paid for.
My home time is set for 1/1 in Denver to see my girls. A few days early with a paid motel would be a nice perk.

Is your truck, a Prostar? Because I've had two do that and my buddy has had two as well. I'm in a new KW now, hoping to head west soon. Barkeyville PA for the night.

    It's a 2013 Volvo, with just over 300k.

I got it brand new about 2.5 years ago. It's been the best truck I've ever had, and I know it inside and out.

I've also had the fuel filter problem with a ProStar and another Volvo, along with similar symptoms with an air filter.
If the engine can't get enough fuel or air it can cause any number of errors in the computer, but it never seems to identify those things as the problem.

I brought it in to Denver terminal once. They told me it would be a couple days to track down the problem because of all the codes.
I told them to just look at the fuel filter - it was FULL! Change that out first, then see where we are.
Yes, it fixed everything. I was back running that same day.

The same symptoms with another truck, but a day after I had gone through a severe dust storm.
On a hunch I removed the air filter and put a flashlight through it. Didn't see any light.
After listening to on-road for 5 minutes telling me what could be wrong, I told them - again, after I had mentioned it before in the conversation.

It seems that if you get a red STOP ENGINE warning, they think something is very seriously wrong.
But I've had them several times just for a fuel or air filter being clogged.

Sometimes they try to over-diagnose things.

In my case, however, the DPF system needs some tender loving care.
I guess that means the filters will be pulled out and cleaned properly - at a great expense to someone. I've heard in the range of $2,000 or more.
Not to mention the sensors and whatnot that need replacing.

My '13 Volvo is doing the same thing. Regen for an hour on the highway, then again ~200 miles later. Since mine is pushing 380K miles, I doubt that Swift will put any more money into this truck; it'll likely be soon heading for the auction block.
