I have an opportunity for a linehaul position from both companies. Just wondering which company would be better. I'm looking to make my last change and retire from where ever I go. I'm looking long term.
estes or saia

When we worked for Freymiller, we were leased out to both these companies running their doubles.
So, not having a company side perspective, but dealing with their terminals and trailers, we liked Saia a little better.
I'm sure a lot has changes in the 8 years, but Saia had better maintenance on their equipment, and nicer terminals.
No idea what happened with the pay over the years. I think they had a drop/freeze in 2008/2009 after the economy tanked.
Have you considered ODFL - we've been there for 7+ years, good pay and benefits. -
i am going for road test for Highway Transport Chemical in Joliet Monday. Did you work for them ? how are they ?
-
Yes that's where I work now. Not too bad of a company pretty laid back. I've been at the Joliet terminal for a year now. Decent pay good home time. You going regional or system? A lot of sitting in the system. I would suggest to sign the pay guarantee it'll say 6 days a week but you'll be dispatched the same with or without it. It will just help on the slow weeks.

Saia. I know someone who works there and enjoys it.. Through bs driver talk, I've heard Estes kind of sucks. But again, you know how drivers talk.

I am not even aware of different opportunities at the company. I guess i will find out more when i go in Monday. I truly appreciate your input. Of course my wife would like to know all about insurance and everything else. I was told day shift MON-Fri regional, then offered local, home daily but work weekends. I want my weekends for my family time. I am looking forward to hauling tankers around. Thanks

As a former (long story) saia driver, I can say they are a pretty decent company to work for.
superflow Thanks this. -
I worked for saia, they have new equipment but now I see Estes getting the new Kentworths. I liked working for saia but management sucked. They have very good insurance and at a low cost. Overall saia was a good company

seems like a even split...looks like I will have to check out Estes
donnielford Thanks this.
