I think it boils down to eating habits. People want a quick fix, and if they just stopped eating, or ate properly, guess what, you'd lose weight. I was sick with the flu for several weeks, and couldn't eat anything, and I lost 25 lbs. I went to a friends for dinner once, and all the people were overweight, you should have seen these people shoveling it in, I was horrified. Soda too, terrible stuff. I see people buying the extra large "gulpie" of soda, and can't figure out why they are gaining weight. Another friends sister weighed in excess of 500 lbs, she reminded me of "Jabba, the Hutt". She was admitted to a nursing home, and you should have seen what they were feeding her, huge plate of pot roast, potatoes dripping with gravy, big piece of pie, it eventually killed her. So sad.
Respectfully, you are greatly oversimplifying the disease of obesity. I could type out an extremely long diatribe about it, but will not. Please educate yourself on this before condemning others you perceive as just pigs. (I know not the word you used but how I took it) It is not easy. I promise.
The surgery is a great risk, but for me the reward was worth the risk. I was going to die at the rate I was going. Until you have been in a fat persons shoes, please do not pass judgement.Reverend Falstaff Thanks this. -

Also, have to make sure you are getting the proper nutrients since your intake is greatly reduced. Multi-vitamin, protein for sure, etc. I drink protein shakes regularly.

If I cud of just lost weight I would have. My dad has done this and did well as I said I'm well educated in what I'm doing
YvonneS Thanks this. -
people also dont seem to understand that all the options are not as risky as others
gastro bypass being the most invasive hence risky
lap band being almost out patient
I had lap band and at the time was back working on the deck of the fishing boat in 10 days
which was much harder work then truck drivingthelushlarry Thanks this. -
Im having the Gastric sleeve

He's right....you'll be taking vitamins every day after surgery for life, only way to make sure you get your daily requirement. I too drink a protein shake every day....same reason. That serve's as my lunch in fact. You don't t want to eat TOO many times throughout the day, it's called grazing & it get's too easy to overeat and start gaining the weight back. I eat breakfast, a shake for lunch, & dinner with a snack later in the evening & I'm fine.
As fas as complications go, like every surgery they can happen...including death (I had a complication come up in fact). Nothing is guaranteed, but you have to weigh the risk of going for it opposed to NOT doing it. For me it was worth it and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Just have to make sure you do your homework, make sure you r surgeon has done a lot of these (many haven't & there are a lot of fly by nights getting into it). The website of the American College of Bariatric Surgeons.... asmbs.org; can be a big help. -
people who have not had the same operation shouldnt make judgement or even comment
lap band surgery requires no vitamins the rest of your life
everyone reacts different to different food groups
and has different tolerances for the amount of chewing required to eat meat
mostly i eat soups and can seem to eat all the candy which was a huge vice from the start
breads still get hung up in my throat 5 years later
