Reefer loads are not recession proof.
Consumer cuts down on certain commodities let's say ice cream.
This causes the hauler in search of other freight therefore there is less available loads causing the price of freight
to drop.
Having said that No Freight is Recession Proof
reefer madness

I'm sure not going to argue with you! Think before you speak. No matter how bad times get, YOU HAVE TO EAT!!
-
I didn't have to think,I lived it.
Our 3 loads a week of ice cream to Miami dropped down to 1 load.
The 2 waffle loads a week down to 1 every other week.
Countless loads of Orange Juice out of Florida almost none existent.
The 9 loads of juice a week out of Dunkir NY to Toronto dropped to 2 a week if lucky.
These were all reefer loads only.
Customers explained to us, recession really slows down their business.
That drops our 56+ loads a month down to 14+
In conclusion yes people have to eat however certain foods are less consumed and reefer loads
are "Not Recession Proof""semi" retired Thanks this. -
I pull a reefer for a fairly large company and like it. Yes, we hire lumpers and I find them to be pretty darn efficient. My company keeps me running, no down time. I job will be what you put into it. In this day and age, unions have much less power than before. Dont let that scare you
-
Lumpers ya hate that they charge ya dont you I usually pay 60 for lumper
-
Working for a company with about 1700 trucks, they pay the lumpers thru ComChex so it really is not a matter that concerns me much. I DO NOT like WalMart charges everyone an "unloading" fee. In my opinion they are the worst run outfit out there. Their DC's are even less efficient than their stores. I have not spent a dime in a Walmart in over 10 years. And I personally will not haul another load to or for them. That is another nice thing about Interstate, we do have a forced dispatch system.
-
I run a dry van but I've been to several McClain and aldi warehouses and never had a problem. Pay the lumpers and take a nap.
I also used to work in a mill making toilet paper and we had slowdowns, nothing is recession proof. -

never witnessed the above.^ how do they hook up to reduce idle OR how do they do what you posted they do?
thanks -
