I-84 in Oregon, 70 cars and 17 semis involved.

Could easily be avoid if Oregon salts their highways but... they don't. There's always black ice on I-84 in OR.

 

Well, at least no one was killed, and they'll all live to crash another day. It always seems to be the same companies, Swift, FedEx, Old Dominion. Is it because there are just so many of these companies trucks out there. You rarely see cool old O/O's Pete's in these crashes. Like the old guy with the '61 Pete with 6.5 million miles on it. Again, these safety people from these big companies must come in and say, "how many did we lose today"? Hang in there, Joseph. Lots of good stuff on TTR today.

 

Yeah, I would chalk it up to numbers. Just so many more trucks on the road belonging to big carriers. But I agree, you don't normally see the cool old Pete's and trucks of that sort mangled in these wrecks. I would also imagine that the O/O's call it quits for the day/night a lot quicker when the weather is really bad. Although, that really wasn't the case here, from what the pictures show.

 

Hard to beleive from those pix that there wasn't many more hurt seriously.....so that's something to be thankful for.....but these types of incidents are really gettin outta hand.....and I have no intention of getting the hows whys goin again...the only thing I will say is..."If I hear one more person driver/cop/reporter talk about Black Ice...Im gonna puke"

12 billion warning signs things might get dicey...or worse....hmm...fog...blowin snow...25degrees....how much more you need to tell ya to Slow Down...increase distance&pay attention?

Hi 'olhand, I hear ya'. That seems to be a new term, black ice. Years ago, we never heard of black ice. Either it was slick, or it wasn't.

 

But.....but.......but my diff's were locked, my auto-traction control was on and my equipment has anti-lock brakes.....how could this happen????? I need to call my tele-trainer and have him explain this to me.

Like I've told many 4WD yahoos (AWD in cars)...4 wheel drive just gives you a slightly better chance to get out of the ditch if you're lucky enough not to have hit any one or any thing when you went for your spin.
