I was just wondering if anyone had any opinions or knowledge about the 12.8 MBE4000 Mercedes and how it stacks up against the Detroit...Is it a pretty decent engine? Problems?

I had a 2006 Century,450 HP MBE 4000. Mine was pretty reliable, averaged 7.5 Imperial mpg over a whole year pulling 53' vans. It's weak point is the individual cylinder heads only have four bolts so if things get hot, the head gaskets leak.

I still 'v MBE with 370hp, 2005 on a Sterling ..so far it's reliable

Buddy has a Benz in his Columbia, 1.2 mil miles, he's happy. The oil analysis is still good, has replaced the usual stuff like any other motor, alternator, starter, AC etc etc. They don't have the grunt of other motors so got a bad wrap early on, but decent enough. Usually the prices of trucks with an MB in them are lower so they are appealing.

I heard electrical issues
