I wish we were allowed to carry stuff outside our trucks. I have a top marker light out on my trailer. I hate wasting the company's money for a shop to replace a $5 light...but if I didn't fix it and got stopped or inspected (with karma and murphy and his laws teaming up, I usually get inspected when I have something simple wrong). And you know if I got dinged for a marker light, compliance would pitch a mega-fit...but if I had one of those foldable extension ladders strapped on under the cab, I could fix it and be on my way....or fix those pesky roof leaks that seem to all to common.
Holy *bleeping* *bleep*.... $119 to replace a marker light...dude had to drill out the old screws because this old trailer had all the marker lights replaced, except this one and it looked like original equipment...I am in the wrong business!Last edited: Feb 4, 2015

I got my back haul picked up out of Indy today. Because of the delay getting the marker light fixed, I ended up catching that brief line of snow that pushed thru central IL, IN, and OH. Since I was empty, it was windy and snowing hard, and we run super-spin-singles...I chose to play it safe an pull up short before I got to Indy. I forget the exit, but it was Knightstown, I believe in the 110's on I-70. I stopped at a Speedway that has a Burger King next door....and guess what is being built across the street...another Love's. There is a Love's 30ish miles east of there in Richmond, IN. I swear, Love's is getting like Starbucks...soon they're be a Love's across from another Love's. Anyway, picked up another light load headed to Garland, TX. The broker said delivers anytime between 7 and 1500 Monday. When I asked if I could deliver on Friday since it's a open window on Monday, she couldn't say one way or the other. Said I could stop by on Friday and try. They also didn't have a phone number...and no number on the b/l. But, thanks to Google, I located them on Google maps, pulled up their info and gave them a call, only to get voice mail. If I were God, the guy who invented voice mail would be standing outside the gates of Heaven with a phone in his hand, leaving messages on God's voice mail for all of eternity. "For English, press 1, para la prensa española 2, ...Hello, this is God, I've stepped away for a moment, so please leave a message and I will get back to you as soon as I can...your call is important to me...

I love it when things work out better than I expect. I finally got thru to my delivery customer. The 1st thing they said "oh, you're a live unload, we have to stick with the scheduled appointment, sorry". Not a problem. I then called Outbound to see if they indeed covered all of Sunday's loads before I ask for a 900 diff...he said "you're on Monday's board, oh and you are scheduled for home time. I have a load that delivers Tuesday, but.....wait....you don't deliver until Monday". I asked if he could pull some strings to get a 900 (since be owed me one for the repowered load to PA) he said to give him a little bit and he would call me. 5 minutes later my delivery customer calls, "we've just been informed that this is a drop, can you confirm?"....let me make a call, and I'll call you right back. Hello backhaul...turns out that, yes, they are setting it up as a drop, and I am numero uno....sometime during this back and forth I get a 900 diff auth via q/comm, so I call the customer, and get voice mail...leave the positive message and call outbound. Outbound sets me up on my home load, customer returns my call and asks that I do everything possible to get there before 1430 to make things easier. I thank them all for their efforts and sprout wings out of my butt and get to the delivery at 14:15. Drop my loaded trailer and bob tail to the yard...sweet...except the DFW area is getting like Miami...traffic jams appear at any time of the day or night...but, good week, good month so far, and a great start to the new year...

It seems as though Building 8 is running behind. Last evening a driver was waiting on his 7 stop load (yes, I said 7 stop...but 1 was the auger delivery to the Merrit Island contractor that rebuilds them). His load was suppose to be ready a 1 pm, it was after 6 pm when he came back to the break room to sign his 'phone book size' bundle of bills. It was so big, it wouldn't fit in a single plastic sleeve. Other drivers were reporting similar delays...
