My thoughts are, while I-Shift is nice, it's just another expensive Computer Controlled part that can go wrong. I would stay with a 13 Speed Manual Transmission.

I don't think I'd buy an I-shift as an owner op but they're great for fleets and newbies.

    Thoughts?

I am thinking these aren't the thoughts nabil1127 was hoping for.

I have a 2014 Volvo D13 with I-shift but with 2.64 rear axle and 455 hp. Are you sure that the D13 is 425 hp? Standard is the 455 which can be turned up to 500 hp. I pull a flat bed and have no problem with power, get good fuel mileage and most enjoyable ride. If the stock is 425 hp, I would suggests against the purchase. Also, from talking with Volvo owners that have a higher rear end ratio, they do not get fuel mileage that a 2.64 does. Hope this helps.

As far as the I-shift goes, as an owner operator, I love it! I will not be going back to a manual shift, ever. I have much more control over my transmission capabilities than with a manual transmission. My legs and back don't ache from creeping rush hour traffic and I don't have a stick in the way of my path to the sleeper. You will get much better fuel mileage at a lower rpm with the I-Shift than with a manual. Mine has two selections: Economy for highway travel and Performance Plus for the mountains. When in the mountains and I need extra power, I push the performance plus button which boosts the rpms. You will also have a four position engine brake that will keep your truck at a constant speed when on steep downhill grades. I really can't say enough good things about the I-Shift. Another good thing about the I-Shift is that it will sense the load you are under and skip shift. You might start off in 2nd gear, but then it will skip to 4th, 6th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th. Unlike an Eaton Ultra, you won't be getting any bouncing around as you try to back up. Hope this information helps.

Love my 2013 with 425hp I-shift with 2.64's. Hard to believe its 425 hp cause it flat out runs our 05 and 06 large cars with c15's.

Wouldn't it be swell if you could get a manual transmission with the same ratios as the modern direct-drive automatics?

But then manufacturers couldn't claim that automatics got better fuel mileage...

I've heard the horror stories of auto transmissions, but from the few people I know that have them, tell me good things.

My buddies 2002 Volvo with the three pedal auto shift, just hit 1.7 million I believe, might be 2.3 million, I can't remember at the moment. He's rebuilt the motor over a million miles ago, and just recently had to change out a solenoid on the tranny. He claims it was the first time he's taking it into the shop for the transmission.

He said he drove for years with missing gears because of the bad solenoid, and recently had to take it in because he lost reverse. While it was in the shop for the cheap solenoid replacement he paid for a complete diagnostics. Everything came back great, total bill $1300. I'd say he got his money's worth out of that auto tranny.
