Overall my van experience has been good here. Florida is a black hole, as a matter of fact I have been there twice and deadheaded out to SC. My expectations were very high, it is not rainbows and unicorns, I mean the rates for vans overall are not much better than my company rate and fsc prior to coming here. It is more and the fuel discounts are great but it's not like a windfall. If I were you I would go flats, especially if you're trying to crack a nut every month. My equipment is paid for and the biggest benefit is that it's all on you. No one at mercer holds hands and drags anyone to work, it's all on you.

Thank you Kjoseph I appreciate your advice, I will certainly take that into account once I make up my mind. I just need to make sure that I am ready to go flats once I make my move....The information stated in this forum by all the good drivers like you allow drivers like me not to make the mistakes that most likely we will make for not knowing the flat bed business...keep on writing and I will keep on reading.....thank you all!!!!

I now have 2 months experiance in flats. What can I say? I hate tarpping! With that said, I like $. I came here originally thinking I was going to go the van route. Changed my mind AT indoc. I haven't looked back since. Well except to say "I HATE (add word of your choice) TARPPING".

Either way you go I think if you have a little common sense it will be a good choice. It's been great for me and this is the so called slow season. I can't wait for summer. Or maybe I'll just take summers off and just work this so called slow season.

I've been putting off making my mind up on a new truck or to get an in frame for months. I had told myself I would make up my mind by the time I hit this point.

I think that's where the smart money is. And not having a truck note is nice. I'm affraid that having a payment again would make me feel like I had to take every load I could and that would probably be the undoing of my success here.

I've been wondering the same thing but, my wife and I talked it out I'm going to do a rebuild and keep this truck till 2024 or 25, then after the house is built I'm getting a dream Truck, although by that time I'll have so many upgrades on this truck I'd hate to get rid of it lol, we did agree on taking it to ARI and having the Bunk redesigned from double Bunk to solo with cabinets I just wish the sleeper is bigger would love to add a foot to it but too expensive
