    Let's say that you come up on a run, receiver is open Mon-Thurs 0600-1800. Shipper has 24 hour access and trailers are preloaded. Minneapolis,MN to Bozeman,MT. $5000 to the truck per run. As many runs as you can stand. How would you run it?

    If it was me I would be loaded on Sat eve., put in 380 miles and then 610 on Sunday, drop on Monday am. and DEADHEAD back to Mn. reload in Mn. on Tuesday mid morning, run till 6pm, run all day wed. drop Wed by 1800, DEADHEAD back to Mn, and reload on Friday mid morning, 34hr reset, leave on Sat. eve., start again.

    Two loads completed, already reloaded for next week, 10,000 Gross 3920 miles total. Never out of hours, home partial weekend, no issues parking on that route, and good fuel mileage because half of my miles is empty, and less wear/tear on my equipment.

    2.55 pm for ALL miles driven.

    Landstar drivers use line 5 for up to 2 hours off duty driving.
    I'm on paper logs, and finally found the section where it talks about this specific issue.
    if you have the full code book it's in section 395.8 question 26
    basically you have to be relieved of all duties (not loaded or dispatched) and you can drive off duty within reasonable limits (hotel, restaurant, truck stop) and it will not break up your 34. I did not see time or distance limits. Also if your company driver company need to be made aware as well as allow you to do this. Make sure you explain in remarks..

    BAM! My kind of driver. Would you believe that some would avoid the deadhead and get a back haul to Minnesota? Working smarter, not harder doesn't mean that you won't work hard. Would you make any changes if you lived in Fargo?

    or 1489 miles. loaded thurs deliver tues morn. load payed $18,750 dead head 312 miles haul load 1065 miles for $10,800. 2866 miles in 8 days. $10.31 per mile. all miles. like I said smarter not harder. but there is some details I left out I am not willing to share ever! I used to do what you do when I was young, never again.LOL sorry replied on wrong post. ment for triplesix.

    The only change I would make is Fargo would then be my starting point and I would rotate back to leaving Fargo on Sat. AM, 230 miles to Mn. load and be del. in Mt. on Monday 6:00am. Total miles from Fargo to Mn. to Mt. 1220 easily doable in two full days, (first trip).

    Deadhead back to Mn. reload 2nd trip Tuesday mid am, rest of Tues, (probably try to run an extra 60 miles on this day) all Wed. drop in Mt. Wed. pm and "start to DH for home, (try to run an extra 60 miles this day) this puts me home Thurs, pm 34 reset rest of Thur. all day Fri. leave out again on Sat. am.


    Might have to roll some extra miles on one day or another, but as long as weather is good, very doable on that route and those roads.

    Yeah, I was going to say, I was working with variable's given, not Over dim. rates, of course not over dim, costs either.

    Just so you know, I have run over dim in the past, I remember one winter in particular moving an OW/OH from Salina, Ks to Des Monies, Ia for an equipment show, with ice snow, fog and permit hours took me three days, 360 miles.


    Never again!!!!! I have already heard enough TS driver stories to last me the rest of my life, sitting around TS waiting for crap. LOL

    walked past a driver at 3 pm with a coffee in my hand
    he says your gonna keep driving?
    i said it is winter in IA what am i gonna do stay here until April?
    i was thinking Elk MTN might be problematic but 35 in IA

    sun was out by Des Moines

    Given a set of variables, I still say that you would do quite well. It's a gravy run. Easy route and all you care to eat. Regular money, regular schedule...sure, you would run the miles, but you would gross near half a mil.

    A few years back, I had a gig like that. Gross $10gs to the truck every week for a year. 50% deadhead. Detention was $2000 a day to the truck if the roads got closed due to weather. The only catch was that if you came off the run, someone else would take your place. All legal dims. Sometimes the smart money is in working harder.

    Even ten years ago, it seemed like loaded big trucks would plow the roads on their own when the DOT got lazy or gave up.

    Today, all across the lower 48, when it snows, the motto is "OMG it snowed 2 inches! Hurry up! Into the the ditch!"
