Most that FAIL on a lease would fail if you gave them a truck for free and a TRAILER FULL OF $ , because they want to do it their way.

I have a brother in law that has failed on a pile of lease deals and all for the same reason he wants to be the boss and does not have a clue on how to be one nor run a business.

You have to work like a dog to make that payment, you're not like guys who own their own truck outright and can pick and choose where and when to run and can choose your own loads:biggrin_2551: you not think that the guys who own their trucks outright did not have to work like dogs to get it paid off. And you need to know what to pick and choose so you make $ , not like the LETS run to FLORIDA cause its warm there mentality so many have then sit for a week hoping to get a load that almost covers their cost to get out of Florida or the I bought a truck how do I get your customers types

That's the problem. People with a low credit score, are in debt past their eyeballs, have neither the pot, or the window to throw it out of, have NO idea that it's a full time business, not just a driving job, are most often the ones who sign up for the L/P. And are the first one's to complain that the company "had it in for them". Or "it's not my fault, they made me lease". All the see are the dollar $igns that advertise $1.00 a mile or more, without taking into account what it takes to get there.

There are people who can make a L/P work. They post here all the time. But for every one that's successful, there are probable 50 or more who lost it all. And are clueless as to why.

I have a friend that ran lease op for prime also, he was there for 3 years, living in the truck, he used his parents home address, but lived in the truck, always on the road, never was late with a load, no problems, he got bad sick 3 years into his lease & he went into the hospital stayed for 3 weeks and almost died, called them everyday from the hospital, they said, "Don't worry, everything is taken care of, get well and come back as soon as you can!"-all happy/everythings fine attitude.
The company "Prime" had already had someone else in his truck, got rid of all his gear, done who knows what with it, and when he got out of the hospital, they said he had not made his payments, he said that they had told him not to worry, come back and get 'your' truck and go back to work.
They said it didn't work that way, but if he wanted he could start over and try to lease again.
He quit and went to work for another company, but said he'd never lease again.

Posted this with his permission to alert other drivers of what can/will happen to you even if the circumstances are beyond your control.

.... Its not a good idea to lease equipment and only have one option to run with, in the first place..... That's trouble right off the bat for starters and second if a person is going to do this, they have to make a decision to live the OTR lifestyle it takes to do this..... That means forget about going home or having a love life and hopefully the driver doesn't have children that need to be with their dad or mom for quality time, baseball games or daddy daughter dances & such
... Why not? Because the driver needs to cover that lease payment or fall behind.... Its that simple
.... Any driver that is contemplating ANY lease deals better be ready to be on the job 24 /7, NOT married or NOT HAVE CHILDREN..... THERE IS NO HOME Time because of the lease payment & up keep on the equipment
.... I just call it "HAIRY CANARY TRUCKING" because it seems like a big head to me..... But like they say it's not for everyone..... Especially married persons or those with babies :biggrin_25512:

Actually, no. There are plenty of opportunities were you could work less, pocket more, and have a much lower payment, but again, it requires better credit and perhaps a little patience and more experience.

When the deck is stacked in the dealer's favor it's hard to win. Not impossible but hard.

Of course those guys worked like dogs to get that truck paid for. I never said they didn't. But they climbed the mountain to get to that position. Too many lease operators think they are in that position as soon as the ink is dry.

If it was easy everyone would own a fleet of trucks but it's not. It's not as much about how much you make a mile. At the end of the week it about how much profit you have left after expenses.

Now that's a crying shame how they did him but that sounds just like how they dirty work you. Stay away people. I warned you here is a perfect example as to why to stay as far away as possible. The ones who are thinking its working is well done in there own imaginable way.
