The difference is the Clarke motors are a genuine Detroit Diesel reman using only detroit parts and redone to detroit specs. The Fitzgerald Detroit "in house" motor is assembled using various components, typically the same as ebay or truck trader rebuild kits. If you break down with the fitzgerald motor, their warranty specifies the truck sits in the shop of your choice but replacement parts have to be shipped from Fitzgerald to the repair shop. Its a hassle so the choice was easy for us.
If the Clarke Detroit motor breaks down and its Detroit Diesels baby, you can go to any authorized Detroit Diesel fascility and they repair as needed with OEM parts, you dont wait around for Fitz to fed ex parts. Our salesman told us this is how the warranty works, im suprised they didnt say anything or ask, maybe they dont do inhouse motors anymore?
Theres a discussion on the flatbed forum "wheres everyone at" from last week sometime.

I know we will be having a discussion about it Monday morning first thing. Kinda ticks me off that nothing was said about it. In fact I am sending my salesman an e-Mail now.

Is there a price increase on using the motor from Clarke?

I dont remember if it was more $$ or not, I talked my boss yesterday (who ordered the truck) when I asked about the difference in fitz vs clarke motors after reading last weeks posting on here and he confirmed what I read and added "they asked which motor we would like and encouraged us to go with the Clarke" I can ask about that and who our salesman was

Just talked to HQ, our salesman was Steven Williams, there was no extra charge for the Clarke motor.

Good luck!!! The first truck is the easiest, adding the 2nd was the hardest decision…..3rd,4th,5th become the easiest decisions!!!!!

Okay got the truck, after some more research decided to stick with the Fitzgerald rebuild. I picked the truck up in Tn, guys and girls at Fitzgerald were very easy to work with; brought it back to Mobile. 11.6 mpg Bobtail. I was amazed, especially since I was varying the speed as much as possible and trying to make it work (as much as you can bobtail anyway). Also found a 2013 Fontain Revolution 52. 48x102 all aluminum flat. I found it on here. ( thanks BCO)It started this week and have so far has made trips into Louisiana and South Texas. Loaded heavy over 45000 on the deck. Running 55-68. Have to run oversize 55 through Louisiana or pretty close to it. (To be legal). Staying off the cruise. Have 1 tank at 7.56 and another at 8.56. Still not trying to get good Mpg's but trying to make it work. Also I am not driving this truck but have found a driver that seems to be doing really well. Have been talking and working with him over the past month.
The Fitzgerald kit is very neat and seems as if it was set up to be easy to work on. If it performs well I see one of their 389s in the near future..... I'll keep you all posted on the good and bad.
