CJnda truck don't ever feel bad about doing your best. I am glad you are doing well. Your numbers just confirm what I already thought, and what skateboardman and others have said, that the money is here if you're willing to go get it.

You are absolutely right. But you know how it goes, few have the cash or credit to buy things directly it seems. I got my Reitnouer trailer (used) for $7K under the asking price by being patient. Every driver in the area wanted it, and seller was motivated. Wanted $23K and maybe not quite worth that, easily worth $20 though. Every interested party was basically in the same situation, "I'll give you $500 now and $xxx per week/month etc". After a month I walked in with $16K in cash, intentionally all $20 bills. Eyes popped and titles were signed. Did a quick sale on the Utility I got from Mercer for $13K the following week. Could have gotten more but didn't want the hassle. I tried selling my 53x102 van at Mercer for a meager $4K, no one had cash, all wanted to make payments. Since Mercer won't take that out and send it to me I refused all "offers". But, the same people that couldn't buy my trailer had more chrome on their trucks than my truck is worth!

Thanks, I paid $890 for both. Though that's with trading my old one in. But they were down pretty far so I could not really wait. Thanks for the reply.OONewbie said: ↑hope you didn't pay more then $410 a tire, my buddy has them on his Freight Shaker and says he loves them..

This is aimed at the new guys ... whenever possible try to buy tires, parts, and get maintenance done in tax free states. $4000 worth of tires without paying ~7% tax can be a nice savings. Call MPACT for a list of states.Bad Monkey said: ↑Thanks, I paid $890 for both. Though that's with trading my old one in. But they were down pretty far so I could not really wait. I HAVE TO AGREE WITH skateboardman , I was never told even a half truth by anyone at mercer. What they said is the way it was. Really caught me by surprise. That they all were up front ...

My first 2 companies really sucked. By the time I went to the third one, I was wondering how long before they screwed me. Well, after a few months I figured out they were ok. I can understand someone being skeptical.
I have a friend that has been at Mercer a few years. He's happy. No complaints. Hopefully, that can reassure some potential new hires.
Furthermore, I drove for 20 years. Most of it as an independent contractor. I am off the road due to family obligations. When I can go back to work, Mercer will be on my extremely short list of companies I would even consider. As a matter of fact, I applied and was approved, but was unable to leave home.Last edited: Mar 30, 2015

duddie said: ↑I'm just confused as to why people are making it seem like if you have a truck payment or some what high overhead that you can't make it here.. Im not getting it..I came from a company that doesn't pay nearly as well as Mercer and I paid my truck payment and everything else I had to pay...Van or Flat it's what you make it and if you're a bad business person or can't dispatch yourself you won't make it no matter what you do or where you go. . Just my couple centsClick to expand...
No one is saying you can't make it with a new truck and high over head. We are saying WE don't want to make that payment. In the woods of a couple generations past, a dollar saved is a dollar earned.roshea Thanks this. -
Lots of things have changed over the years at Mercer. One thing has remained the same for 26 years. Louisville does not lie to you. Anyone that says they were lied to, either heard what the wanted to hear, or they did not understand what was said.
