Some of the longest days in trucking can come from the local circut.

Awoke at 5, started unload at 6.
Drove to reload by 2pm, loaded and tarped by 6pm,
Fuel and showed at 9pm, parked for bed at 10 pm.

14 hr nights were absolutely standard for me at con-way and not by choice...And that's excluding the drive to/from work.

 

Mike , 30 years ago that would have been considered a half day job by some.
Makes one wonder why they say trucking was great back then.
Of course stimulants were also the used quite regularly.
It is really the number of stops and level of concentration that is the killer there.
I only did that type of job for about a month in total standing in for drivers on leave.
Much harder than OTR IMO.

 

Yes it's not for everyone but I just love how we aren't pushed like others, you have your dispatch and if something comes up it comes up so shut it down. They rather it get there safely rather then you have a million dollar accident.

 

New stop that is a mall or university I have learned to call the store. "Where does the truck usually park?"

Not perfect but helps a ton.

You would think that the company would write this down, but nooooo clearly same bs industry wide.

Sometimes just throw the flashers and walk into the store before entering.

 

I swear it gets easier.
