How to call in sick being a truck driver out on the road? Is it even possible? Who do you notify? Maybe dispatch? Calling in sick on the road you cant drive for the day? 24Hrs..how does it work?

If you are OTR, my first guess would be Dispatch. Safety may put your truck on a safety hold and demand that you see a doctor to return to work depending on what the illness is.

Calling in sick is a big no-no in this biz. You need to be on your deathbed.

You call dispatch but you better be good and sick.If you're under a load, dispatch will find you a swap. You'll get his empty trl and he takes your load.If you take off more then a day you'll probably get a call from safety.

When I was a company driver I would ask myself "Would you park for the day if this was your truck?" and once in 8 years the answer was yes.

Not sure why you'd get a call from safety, that seems odd.

I've been fortunate enough to not get sick while driving. If you feel you're too sick to drive though I would think dispatch would be the ones to get in touch with.

I know guys who have sat for a couple of days due to not being up to driving. It happens and unless the company you work for has complete morons to deal with it they would give you as much time as needed and probably check up on you to make sure you're doing OK.

Contact your Fleet manager/ Dispatch, and tell them.Make sure you get the name of the person that you talk to. If you are too sick to drive... then do not drive( section 391of rulebook) . Once you alert them of your illness make sure you follow up with a message via quall comm. If they push the issue, then contact the safety department and let them know you are not feeling well and you do not want to in violation of the FMCSR rules. Once again get the name of the person you talk to, and follow up with a QC message. Do not let dispatch bully you if you are sick.
