SMH ... Won't be long, a big percentage of the population will look at truckers with the same fear as they may now consider a group of harley riders seen somewhere, with leather jackets and colors sewn on.

How do you respond to someone who asks you, as a truck driver, why do I see so many rear-ending crashes involving trucks today? I think the honest answer is, they spend 10 hours a day behind the wheel, and many of them spend a good part of that time trying to while away the hours "surfing" on their smartphone or texting and whatnot.

Sure, it could have been something else. But let's be honest, there are very few of these incidents where the driver can not be held to blame for much if not all the reasons for the crash.

Traffic is much heavier today that years ago, so there will be even more wrecks. For our highways and byways are getting to be plump full of vehicles. And I figure it will keep on going in that direction.

Wow I just read all the comments on that news article ... Kind of feel like I would be guilty until I prove my innocence ...

The one guy wants us governed at 65, I'd say ok I will do that if you govern your car at say 75. Sound good?

Governors are inevitable.....like it or don't.....because nothin DC does is ever more than knee jerk.....because everybody Knows a 65mph truck hittin a Stopped vehicle is much Safer than a 70mph truck hittin a stopped vehicle

... and drivers of 65 MPH vehicles NEVER "text and drive" or otherwise drive distracted, but those darn 70 & 75 MPH truck drivers ... they are always driving distracted :biggrin_25523:

Governors, and those cursed "driver cams". The Feds and the ATA will be shoving those down our throats, while they continue to fail when it comes to doing something about how these idiots are trained and screened for that training.

To play devil's advocate ... maybe if a driver cam was in play, this crash would not have happened (assuming there was some driver distraction at play such as texting or web browsing). I think this is the whole purpose of driver cams is to force drivers to stop with their distracted driving crap and stop killing people needlessly. Say what you want about driver cams, but they will not lie in the event of a crash and they can be used to get problem drivers out of the trucks before they kill somebody.
