Three months out of CDL school in early March I was leaving a lot after delivery and felt the trailer jolt, looked in the mirror and saw a tall wide snow pile. I thought the rear tandem hit the icy snow pile. I didn't "Get Out And Look" . Big mistake!
Next day I'm informed that I struck a 4wheeler and was fired for failure to report an accident.
Both my DMV record and PSP are totally clean, I haven't had had any tickets or accidents in over 20 years.
The problem is the DAC, I've ordered it and should have it in a week or two, but was told in showed the failure to report, not sure of any other details All the local companies I've tried in Northern Illinois, want more experience. I know that "failure to report" is a big red flag. Am I doomed or is there one of the big outfits that will give me a second change. If so who would those be?

    Chinatown, please chime in!

    Thanks

I don't think your doomed...but your gonna have to look hard...and if asked about it tell the truth. Luckily you live in a good area.

Just find an Eastern European trucking company, they will hire you and there are plenty in IL. Check Craigslist, Polish or Russian newspaper. They don't even check DAC, just driving record from DMV

Your DMV may be clear since this accident took place in the lot? Had it been in the street, I'd venture to guess you would have been arrested for leaving the scene of an accident/property damage(the car being the property).

You may have lucked out with nothing on your DMV report, please drop the PSP, you DID NOT HAVE an inspection..!!

The DAC should show you were hired and any accidents/incidents you had while in their employ.

It should show if you are re-hirable or not, most likely to say "not"

You will be asked question's at interview times. Tell them the truth, like when you answer the question, "ANY ACCIDENTS?"

As this WILL SHOW on your DAC

You may not be doomed, but leaving the scene of an accident, ain't gonna help you either, as your driving Big rigs since March is what counts, not your past 20 years as a car driver. You are supposed to have been the professional, and leaving the scene of an accident, don't look too good.

The best of luck to you OP but it seems like I am getting a partial story:

You mean some some shipper plowed all his docks but buried a car entirely under the snow pile? You hit the car but you did not see no sign of the car under the snow? Nothing in the mirror? No metallic sound? No shrapnel? No sign of impact on the trailer? Some one was O.K. with their car buried under the snow near a shipping dock but knew what company to report the accident without reporting it to the Police? Police did not investigate a Felony hit and run and just let it go with a DAC report?

Just saying you might want fine tune your story before telling to an employer?

I think the car was park behind the snow and when op hit it, he just saw the front of the snow in his mirrors. But still. ...use those mirrors

If it gets out and reported on any paperwork a company may use in the hiring process then I would say Yes you are doomed. You would have to have some really good reports on what you've done so far like clean driving records and such. But if anyone lays your application down on a table and compares it to others I don't think you'd have a choice. The best advice I could give you is to prepare to change career paths and star looking at different types of jobs.

It's possible. This winter plowing we buried a few cars that didn't move. When you have over 100" of snow in a few weeks, we ain't got time for games.
