[hey skateboardman what i was thinking was to feed a chain(yellow) through the base and use a binder (red) on each corner. the chain would have lots of slack in the middle.

Here is what I ended up getting. notice the two hooks? Chains wouldn't fit lol. the other end is back hooks. If u chain that you will bend the back as it was sheet metal like a tin can lol. I asked the customer when I del how do you chain these and had anyone brought em chained. He said nope everyone straps em
-
Keep them on because if a customer see it's not tarped they may refuse it. That's common sense to cover yourself.

I carry, 1 8ft drop with lumber flap. 4 4ft drops Mercer tarps(which, are freaking junk. They tear if you look at them side ways so always pad EVERYTHING with felt) and 2 12x14 smoke tarps. The smoketarps are really nice for those small items that need tarps, or when 1 regular trap is just a bit too short.
As for having to fold tarps under, get used to it, find a system that works for you that gets the job done faster. Almost every load you will need to. It's only an issue when you don't have 4 foots and are trying to tarp a two foot load with six or eight foot drops. the only reason to get even shorter tarps is if you had a dedicated account pulling the same short loads all the time. -
you would think that they would have built some sort of blocking for that front flange to sit in?
-
Lol nope just small flat wood.

A question I have about the picture...The way it's strapped down, what's to keep it from going through the truck like a torpedo in a sudden stop accident?
truckon Thanks this. -
Well thats a good point but i couldnt put one on x cross. It was less then 3,000lbs so 3 straps covered that. The straps did ruff up the paint a little even with coverage on them.

There could be a chain ran through, or even better around the spool on the front bottom. Just tape some padding around the spool for protection. If the straps are long enough, one of the rear ones could be belly wrapped also.

Considering the weight, it isn't shooting forward.
