For some of us its the only way through the door. After being thrown under the bus, train, truck and tossed into a deep river tied to rocks (massive medical bills wiped me and my credit out) it was the best option.

Since most expenses are paid by the company the pay is about equal to a well paid company driver so long as the flease payments are being made. Once the flease is paid its not so bad. With fsc the current rate is $1.17 and after my costs it knocks it down to $0.42-$0.52 CPM depending on weight, weather, fuel costs etc.

Certainly not getting rich but the truck is over 1/2 paid off. If I pay it off, more (better) options will be present.

Well - I really appreciate the honesty - in an industry filled with many blowhards and braggers. If only more could be like you. It seems I have to drag that simple concise answer that you gave out of most folks after hearty screaming, kicking and protests.

All that irritates me about the lease purchase is how the companies pump the drivers head full of fluff about being an owner operator. They're really not. I'm really not either. I own my truck, I have an agreement with a bank to use my trailer while I pay it off, and I use a company for their DOT numbers, and several systems in which I give up 27% of my gross revenue.

When I bought a house, I would say "I own a house, well - the bank does, but I'm paying it off".
When we bought rentals, I never said "I own rentals", until we paid them off. I said "We have some rental property that the bank is financing", or "We're in the rental business" - if I really wanted to sound fancy.

The bank becomes the boss. You want to keep your "x" - then you better go to work. If there's a boss at work too, then you've got twin misery.

So - back to the point, if lease operators like yourself could simply say - "I do about as good as most company drivers, but I'm trying to buy the truck as I go, so I have a better future" - then I could say "Good on ya bud - hope it goes well" - instead I just stay out of the Prime threads for fear of lifetime banning.

$1.17 with FSC and you still have a dispatcher.

The driver that mentioned he earning .42c should go further. Medical premiums for himself more if he has a family plus personal taxes. Company indicates an average of .23c per mile. My brother worked for them and he he would stay out 2 month and average over 3k miles per week. After going through his settlementson his take home was .23c per mile. This is the main reason why JCTdriver turnover is as of 6/25/15 is 108%. Transport Topics also has verified this info and Kevin Rutherford. They bring in drivers to make there truck payments and they own the leasing company. When are these guys going to wake up? When there in BK....

Lets makes this part clear as can be... any intelligent reasoning driver that hears Kevin Rutherford speak more than 5 minutes knows he's full of crap so dropping his name didn't help your arguement.

As for .23 cpm, I can see that as an average at JCT. The vast majority of driver's I've seen here are just that, drivers. They have no idea what it takes to operate a truck and they drive them like they are still company drivers. You start asking questions and it becomes clear real fast why they're not doing well. So no, the main reason for the high turnover isn't the settlements, its people doing L/P that couldn't run a lemonade stand.

Sorry you don't agree with Rutherford. In any case that's my point exactly companies like JCT attract drivers and offer the moon but to fail only. It's a sad situation. As for myself after 30 yrs and a small company I've built from one truck to 29 trucks it's been a sacrafice. I know several LP drivers at JCT and I've hired several of them by them looking for other opportunities and I've hired them thankful there doing great now. Many companies do the lease option because it's cheaper for the bottom line and satistics show that 4 out of 25 drivers will have successfully completed the so called LP. Happy trails my friend. Let's not judge anyone unless you know them personally, or unless you be judged yourself. Words I live by and has benefited me. Take care.

4 of 25 is 16%, I find that number a bit high. From personal experience I'd guess under 10%. Of course the "failures" include me, since I purchased my own truck after 15 months. I know of another JCT driver who did the same at 15 months. I could name 2 who bailed on JCT for ATS and SNI respectively. The problem with statistics is they can be very selectively taken and applied.

As for my judging, I'm assuming you mean judging KR. I don't know the man personally, he may be a great guy to chat with away from his business. My issue is his business as snake oil salesman for pretty much every gimmick that comes along to lighten the bank accounts of hard working men and women. ie: he spews crap like he's filled with it.
