I had been having emissions problems for a couple years. Every time I stopped at a shop to ask how long to get in for service, they all said about a week. I just kept driving the truck waiting for it to derate or blow up. Fially got it in a shop after the red stop engine light came on, though only took them about 3 days to fix it. All that to say all these shops around the country are swamped with emission problem trucks. It is their #1 business now-a-days. They are getting rich off this CARB CRAP.

2012 frieghtliner Cascadia..
Well I think we might have the issue corrected!! Waiting for it to get a hard regen at shop.. They will know then.. Hope it fixes it up..stormy379 Thanks this. -
Well, awful run upto Michigan.. Started off good after I left the shop for about 150 miles, then got a regen light..
Then made it about 130 miles got another regen light.. Then about every 80 to 130 miles rest the way, I'd get to pull over and regen for 1 hour.. But on the bright side, I got the load delivered..
So it's Sunday, no load to pick up, watched a few too many videos about working on your isx system.. Had some breakfast and came out and decided to pull the doser off to see if it was plugged..
I know a lot of people feel like truck drivers should do more of there own maintenance to save money. About 6 or 7 hours of being in the sun today, I was cursing everyone of them that think that.. Man that was not an easy job to do by yourself.. By the time I was done I had cleaned the doser and sensor, but had to remove part of the DPF exhaust or what ever you want to call it.. Heck I could of pulled the filter its self out in about another 30 min, I had to pull that much exhaust off to realign the doser by myself..
The sensor hole was plugged with carbon, I sprayed and wirebrushed it and scrapped it clean.. Looked better!! Don't know if this was my problem, I did see some sensor wires that look ruff going into the DPF canisters..
As for now I feel pretty heat exhausted, tired after only a few hours of sleep, so off to bed I go.. I need to go for a drive at some point to see if this helped out at all..
If not I guess it's back to freightligner in the morning.. Peace!! -
So it is hot inside the sleeper, so I decided to do some more work on the engine. Pulled the manifold pressure sensor and cleaned it up.. It was pretty sooty!! I actually might need to replace it, I'll check tomorrow if I can get the part ordered..
I have been looking for the MAF Sensor, but am not 100% about where it located on my engine.. I hope somewhere along the way I find the issue and my truck starts running like a boss again..
If you are thinking about leasing on to a company, the hard truth is most trucks offered for lease are old company trucks with over 350,000 miles.. Cummins only has a 250,000 standard warranty or a company can purchase a 500,000 warranty. But the smart thing to do is lease the truck to someone else and let the repairs be his problem.
You MUST!!! must learn about this DPF / EGR / DEF system and how to take care of it!! If you can learn this prior to leasing the truck, you can identify problems from day 1..
If I knew what I know now, I would of known what parts to look at.. Are they still cummins red at 400,000 miles? If so what does the sensor look like, an easy one to pull, or an inspection plate!! These are things you can check by bringing a few tools with you.. Them make them repair these issues before u head out!! Don't be an idiot like me and limit your self to just the motor, tires and brakes..
Please educate yourself, this is free...
God Bless!!stormy379, scottied67 and MysticHZ Thank this. -
Hopefully you fixed the problem.
itaff Thanks this. -
Changed stopped and got a MAF Sensor today and pulled the old one out, it was pretty gunked up.. I made it about 200 miles no regen so going to stop get ECU reset and keep fingers crossed!! Also going to get a new back pressure sensor and EGR sensor ordered..
I spoke to Bruegner today about all my issues, Aaron sent me email stating he would help me get in to a 2016 Eveloution.. Going to think about this one, it would be nice to have a truck with a warranty built into it... -
I'm driving a 2015 Cascadia Evolution, got it brand new. It rides rough and in my opinion it's a little noisy. The company is governed at 62 on the floor and 65mph on cruise. I run the cruise at 65 all the time, still averaging about 7.5.. sometimes better
-
Are they a lot like the Cascadia.. I usually only cruis about 65 to 68.. So that would not be too big of an issue..
I had my ECU reset for the 4th time in a week, guess what?? I had a regen light come on and loss lots of power this time south of Chicago..
I pulled off on too a little back road to get off the. Highway and seen a sign for a shop called Finish Line where the 80 and 55 meet.. Went inside and the guy never even asked about money, he came out and said lets figure out what's going on with you..
I told all that I have done or had done, and he said I'll be right back.. Came out with the computer, but not to reset the system, but to monitor it.. He asked what the last shop said about exhaust temp sensor.. I told him nothing, because after a regen it showed cleared.. He laughed,,,
He continued on and started a regen, he noticed the truck is not getting upto 1200 to 1350 degrees during the regen, only between 900 and 1000.. And it took over an hour to hit that temp.. So he thinks that the Doser is beyond needing cleaned and it needs replaced because it is not getting hot enough to cause oxygenation.
OMGoodness!! You mean you don't want no money for this, wait here until tomorrow and we will change out the Doser then (at only $80.00 an hour not $130) wow there are some Americans left in this country who have not fallen down the rabbit hole.. Lol
So more tomorrow, really need this to come to an end and get some freight moving down the road..stormy379 and scottied67 Thank this. -
That's awesome news. If they do a good job make sure you give them a good review on here, in one of those good or bad repair threads. Plus on Google. Sounds like god might have heard your prayers. Lol
-
Ok, they pulled the dosed and it and the line were clogged.. Replaced it and cleaned the lines and pressure sensors, regen it and I think where off!!
Great group of hard working guys here at Finish Line Truck and Trailer Repair in lovely Joliet, IL (3400 Mound RD)..
They total came to less that $700.00 for all they did.. I'd pick them anyway over the big guys!!!stormy379, scottied67, 88 Alpha and 1 other person Thank this.
