    The DOT rules state that the CDL tests must be completed in English.... As far as I am concerned, I don't care if your first language is English or not, but when you are dealing with the public or using public services; you need to speak English. If you choose to speak another language in your home or church, that is fine; but don't ask for public services/forms/etc in that language.

    The only exception would be sign language for hearing impaired (for spoken services) and braille for sight impaired (for written services).

    It is not rocket science to learn hundred words in English, enough to pass the written tests.
    Then, I do not defend them, because you have to communicate in English when meet the DOT, police officer, shipper, receiver...
    Just pointing to this, there is a breach in the system, if they can get their licences easy way, why not?

    Even for the 2 years I was going to be assigned to Germany, we had to learn some German; and immigrants are offended when they have to learn our language??? WTH???

    But that is off topic and rant over!

    No one feels offended :) Just some people are lazy, lets say :) I wanted to learn English, and I am. Not like my native language, but good enough to speak, read, listen freely.

    They will have to do it in California because ofthe new law granting drivers licenses to undocumented aliens. In 2014 California issued 435,000 licenses during the first 6 months. Already this year since the new law passed in January 759,000 licenses have been issued,397,000 of which were to immigrants in the country illegally. What this all means is no one can just walk into a CA DMV anymore, you will need an appointment to get an appointment.

    Why even have any standards at all? Lets just make it so you can go to Wal-Mart pay $250.00 at the sporting goods counter. They crank out a CDL in that state for you, then you go buy whatever truck you want, find a company to lease on with or get your own authority. WaLa you are a trucker, that is bound to be just as good as what we currently have going on in most cases.

    Michigan has had third party ( independent-no conflict of interest) testing from the get go. I worked under that system for five years and I feel it is the only legitimate way to do it. Example is Swift school in Millington Tn. More crooked than a bushel basket full of copperheads.

    The school I went to had the head guy as the third party tester. He had absolutely no involvement in anything we did except test us. Only 4 out of 15 of us made it out...very strict school and tester which was a good thing.

    It is imposable for a THIRD PARTY TESTER to be employed by the school. By the definition of the phrase he must be employed by another source.
