They bumped me up to SD2 in Rockford, so I can go up to 12 wide. I remember your advice on learning one state at a time - but the ones I've been seeing are KC over to MD area. I'll need to grab banners and flags, and get a flip up plate holder too.

Catching a break on the truck for a month would be nice. I was a bit depressed about it this week, until a friend called that has 5 or 6 trucks. He's been running a 2011 Pete that he had bought a month ago to replace one that a driver had rolled on 44 near Rolla. He'd been in the shop 6 times already, the last time he left it in Indy and grabbed a rental car home. He's taking it back to the dealer and trading it off for a T600.

$10k in the maintenance fund would be comfortable -

Not to be a butt, but last I knew SD2 was 8'7"-10' wide, SD3 10-12' plus over weight, SD4 12-14', and SD5 unlimited.

Thinking about how honest and helpful your information has been gave me an idea, B. I will post the two full years of repairs and costs, do some plus/minus, post the hard facts. My facts.

New or used, buying a truck is always a risk. Always. And, no matter how bad it gets, some other fool has it even worse. Not that somebody else's problems mean anything to me. I do facts, yours and mine among others, might be useful. Like for a start, having your $166K pretty new truck in the shop when the (many) bills are due is clearly an aging experience.

You were here well before the rating system was implemented. My friend came on in 2005 and it didn't exist, but when I came on in 2009, it did. I've been stuck at SD4 for years now as rarely do I see anything worth taking that will bump me.

Not at all - I'm pretty sure you're right, I don't know where I pulled that 12' figre from. I think the guy said I could have been doing overlength already - I'd always passed those ones over.

Yeah, with your trailer, over length could make you some $$$$

That would be good - I've tried to be honest about the process, things that cost money get highlighted in bold print, so that others may make a decision for themselves, I think that's important in an environment of recruitment lies and false figures, sales pitches and smokescreens.

Taking a leaf from KR's startup info - (Hate to say it, he's right on this one) - if people can do the figures first, plan and prepare, before buying a truck - and then decide now is NOT the time, then it may save homes, marriages, college and retirement funds, and a lot of wasted blood sweat and tears.

And speaking of TEARS, I left the shop with a bill for $1871 for the accessory pump oil seal. It had spun the bushing in the front cover, pulling the bushing out about 3/4" forcing the oil seal out. Pulleys and front cover off, oil pan off, replace front cover, oil and grease. Had I not got it done, it probably would have wound up in a tow from oil prssure loss.

Have the rest of the week lined out. Plane parts out east, e-town to Bellevue, OH, to KC, back to etown, KC, e-town, KC then probably be short on hours.

    That's the PLAN, anyhow.
